We ate in silence. He is staring at me. I hate when he does that. Especially when he's got his makeup on.
"We're gonna head over to your friend What's Her Name's house first to pick her up." He says between bites of toast.
I sigh. "He name is Carrie. Why is that so hard for you to remember?"
"Cuz I don't care obviously." He says before downing some whiskey. He tosses me the keys to the van.
I hate driving the van. The drivers seat has springs coming out.
I put the plates and glasses in the sink before he pulls me over to him and pushes me towards the front door.
"Are you gonna tell me what we're doing or what?" I say while walking out.
He slams the front door behind me without coming out with me.
"Did I say we? I did didn't I? I mean you! I'M going back to sleep! It's to early for this!" He cackles.
"Well what am I doing then?!" I say as I kick the bottom of the door.
He looks at me through the window and smiles. A big smile. "You my dear, are going to rob Gotham bank of no less than a million dollars. If you can't get it there get it somewhere else but you're not coming back in here till you've got a million in that bag of yours. Got it? Good! Nighty night!"
I hear his cackle fade away as he moves from the window.
Bastard.
I drive to Carrie's apartment . I bang on her door till she opens is slapping me in the face, her nails catching me a bit on my jawline.
"OW SHIT! You need to cut those CLAWS more often, damn, girl." I hold my check and check for blood. Nope. Not bleeding. THIS time.
"What the hell are you doing here woman! It's four a.m. Is your psycho dad here too?" She says while surveying the area around me looking for the Joker.
"No. But apparently he thinks you can help me rob the Gotham bank of a million bucks." I say while stepping inside.
She closes the door. "What, he's not coming?"
"Guess not. He kicked me out till I bring him a million dollars."
"Ohhhhhh. He's in a mood... Gotcha. Let's go then! What are we waiting for?"
We drive over to the bank. It's not open. But that's no problem. We use grapples to get to the roof and find a skylight.
After we've set up shop, as we say, we lower ourselves in and get to work.
Fifteen minutes later we have a million and are getting ourselves down from the roof. When we touch down we see that the van is gone. On the curb in its place is a note.
"- I need the car. Find your own way home. Don't die. If you do I'll kill you. Xoxo. Father.-"
Damn him. Carrie looks at me and shrugs.
"Sorry Amber. You're on your own. I've got work to do soon. You know. A REAL job. You should consider trying that sometime. "
She a bitch sometimes. Cuz she's responsible. And has a "respectable" job. But that's ok. She's my best friend. My only friend really. Hard to make friends when your dad murders people for fun.
" Yeah. I'll do that when my dad goes to confession. I'll call you when I get home."
"You're walking?" She says as she puts her coat on.
"What else can I do?"I say, shrugging
"You better call as SOON as you're home so I know you're safe."
"Whatever you say your highness."I say, with a smirk
She flips me the bird and we start walking in opposite directions. The sun is coming up. I adjust the bag full of money on my shoulder. I look at my watch. 6:00.
Guess I'm heading home alone again.
