On the one year anniversary of the Joker's death, the whole city of Gotham celebrated. He'd spent years torturing the city. After his death crime died down. Of course there was the occasional mob boss or villian that needed taking care of. After the Joker's death not one hospital blew up, no one was executed on live television, no one had to fear kidnapping from a man who would gladly give you scars to match his own. Gotham felt no pity whatsoever to his family left behind. They hadnt been seen or heard from since it happened.

Only one man didn't celebrate. That man was Bruce Wayne. Bruce Wayne has been wrought with guilt over the Joker's death. He felt as if he'd finally lost, and the Joker had won. He wondered about Joker's family. He hoped they were ok.

If anyone had been down in the main subway station late at night they would have noticed four figures lurking in the dark tunnels, after all of the trains had retired. They would have noticed two women who were crying, and two men who were walking confidently. It was as if it was difficult for these people to be there.

If anyone had been had been down in the main subway station and stayed to investigate they would have heard some intresting conversations.

The shortest girl had said "After everything I've been through with my father I still don't feel like he's gone."

The tallest man had taken her hand and said "He's in a better place. Even if he's in Hell it's got to be better than he was treated on Earth."

The shortest man had said "I didn't know my father long, but it felt like I'd known him for centuries."

The tallest girl, and the most distraught one, had said "I just can't belive that one minute we were planning our futures together and the next he was gone."

If anyone had been down in the main subway staition late at night, after the figures had started to walk down the tracks, they would have heard the most iconic sound in Gotham. A sound synonymous with pain, torture, and death. They would have heard a sound that told them all of the celebrating should stop.

They wouldn't be surprised. Gothamites stopped being surprised about this a long time ago.

If anyone had been down in the main subway staition late at night, they would have heard the girls squeal with delight, and the men yelp from surprise. They would have seen a fifth figure, a man, walk out of the shadows to them. They would have seen the man embrace the tallest girl and kiss her. They would have seen the man hug the shortest girl and spin her in a circle. They would have seen the man embrace both of the men at the same time.

They would have heard the man tell them that he's coming with them, to start a new life.

If anyone had been down in the main subway staition late at night, they would have heard the girls say in unison to the newcomer "We thought you were dead!"

If anyone had been down in the main subway staition late at night, They would have heard the sound once again.

The laugh of a million nightmares.

The laugh of the Joker.

But alas....

No one had been down in the main subway staition late at night on the anniversary of the Joker's death.
