(Season 1 - Episode 4 - 'Dogs')

In about an hour, a bottle of Xanax would be discovered in the Ecto Cooler, and Jimmy 'Cicero' Kalinowski would be free of the excruciating din being produced by the gaggle of kids in his backyard. Had he known this, he probably would have waited to present Carmen his rather odd request until it was quiet. But as he couldn't see the future, he didn't. So the conversation would be punctuated by the occasional gleeful yell of a child on a sugar high.

"Listen, Carm, there's something else you can do for me to knock some more off of your tab."

The man in question nodded but carried on setting up, trying his hardest to ignore Richie's looming, distinctly unhelpful presence.

"Ok. What?"

"So there was this guy, Matty, Matty Nelson. An old buddy of mine. Your dad's too?"

"Uh, yeah. I think my mom mentioned him a few times."

"Yeah well, your dad and I grew up with him, like a brother really. Well, almost thirty something years back he got it in his head to move to fucking London. His father was from there and so he did it. Just left." Jimmy let out an irritated huff as he pushed his glasses further up his nose. "Anyway, he died two months ago. Idiot got drunk and got into a car wreck."

Carmy's hands stilled for a moment and made eye contact before carrying on with his task. He wanted Jimmy to know he was listening intently.

"Oh, I'm sorry."

Jimmy just shrugged. "Yeah well, I hadn't spoken to him for ten years, selfish bastard just stopped communicating altogether. But you see the thing is, the asshole made me his daughters Godfather. Clara."

It really was a miracle Richie hadn't butted into the conversation before that point, but he decided that moment was the perfect time.

"Oh shit! You gonna have to adopt her or something Jimmy? I do not envy you. There's always a freaking, pale-ass British kid in the horror movies. Wouldn't want one of them walking around my house at night I'll tell you that. Did you see that show, uh- Bly Manor or some shit? The kids in that were fucking creepy. She comes out with a perfectly splendid, she needs an exorcism."

Carmy glared at Richie as Jimmy uncrossed his arms and jabbed a finger in Richie's direction. "You know you're a real asshole Ric."

Richie pushed off the table he'd been leaning back on. "I swear to fucking god, you know I hate when you call me-"

"Cousin, will you shut your goddamn mouth?" Carmy snapped. Finally realising this conversation was going to need his full attention, he put down what he'd been fiddling with.
