CHAPTER ONE
auditions

"Hi, I'm Jacob Ben Israel with Glee's Big Gay Summer with all the Glee club dish you're dying to know," Jacob tells the camera, "Rachel, how do you respond to rumors that you're incredibly difficult to work with?"

"As her boyfriend, I can answer that," Finn Hudson responds, "Rachel's what you'd call a 'controlist.'"

"I'm controlling," Rachel Berry shakes her head, "'Controlist' isn't a word. I'm controlling. Performing is my life. And, yes, do I have opinions about it? Does my need to express those opinions annoy my fellow Glee Clubbers?"

"Yes." Finn says, "Yeah... that was out loud, wasn't it?"

Jacob moves onto his next interview.

"Kamila Becker, people have been saying that because your boyfriend is gay, you must be a lesbian, will you comment on that?" Jacob asks.

"He's not gay--" Kamila says.

"I'm not gay." Cameron confirms.

"And I'm not a lesbian," Kamila says, "We're in a very happy, heterosexual relationship. I can promise you that."

"What about the rumors that you're secretly cheating on Cameron with either Mike or Tina?" Jacob questions.

"Because we're Asian?" Kamila furrows her eyebrows, "Go away, Jacob."

Jacob rolls his eyes and walks away.

"Ignore him," Kamila assures, "Nobody thinks you're gay."

"Nobody wants to join us," Kamila expresses her concern, "I wish Cameron would just... I don't know, try--"

"But he won't because he's worried everyone will call him gay," Santana says, "That's bullshit. Being in the Glee Club doesn't make you gay."

"He just doesn't want to get made fun of," Finn shrugs, "I can't blame him."

Kamila has been in the Glee Club since it began. She's tried to convince her boyfriend, Cameron, to join multiple times, but Cameron's worried that everyone will call him gay if he joins.

"We need more of us," Rachel states, "To beat them."

"Exactly," Will Schuester agrees, "So we're gonna go out there and show the school what they're missing."

•••

Cameron has a group of friends that he considers to be-- not popular, but also not unpopular-- he's right in the middle.

For the record, Cameron is considerably popular. People don't generally really think he's gay anymore, now that he has a girlfriend.

He's objectively good-looking and cool.

But he won't join the Glee Club, because he doesn't want that rumor to come back.
