A few weeks later...

"Ready for your first day of Foxfire?" Mr. Forkle asked.

"I don't think so, but I have no choice don't I?" Erika answered.

She had come a long way from the Forbidden Cities to the Enlightened World and it had gone by in a blur. It has already been a couple weeks since Mr. Forkle "kidnapped" and light leaped her to the Elvin world to show her where she belonged. But after Mr. Forkle nearly lost concentration from Erika's kicking and flailing; he only managed to bring her to one of the Black Swans headquarters before being inflicted on from her.

Then Mr. Forkle had stirred and woke and he explained everything to Erika. From how she's an elf to how she had three abilities, and how she's pretty unusual. He also explained that there was another girl named Sophie Foster who is similar to Erika. Abnormal eye colors, abilities, and how she also grew up in the human world. After that Erika had asked Mr. Forkle all her questions and Mr. Forkle answered most of them except for a couple. One of them he didn't answer was the question Erika had been longing to be answered. Who were her biological parents? She absolutely needed to know. But Mr. Forkle told her it was standard protocol and even apparently The Sophie Foster didn't even know, unless she found out herself. He only told her that her parents had abandoned her, and that they were very powerful and famous, and couldn't bear to ruin their "reputation" with an abnormal elf daughter with two different colored eyes. That was all he could tell her.

Erika still decided to trust Mr. Forkle and even decided to join the Black Swan to help change the unfairness in the Enlightened World and defeat the Neverseen some bad group that hurts people as Mr. Forkle had described it. The hardest part was saying goodbye to her adoptive parents. She had to wait and stay at home with her mother until her dad returned from Asia so the washers could create or erase memories of both the mother and father at the same time. Mr. Forkle gave her a choice. She could give her parents one last good-bye and make them believe that she had died, or they could just forget her completely. Of course Erika chose them to forget her. On possibly the last day that Erika could ever see her human adoptive parents, she gave them all a big hug and cried and cried until her tears ran out. They were of course puzzled but hugged her back comfortingly. It was hard to leave them. She decided to take her diary, ballet pointe shoes, her favorite book, and a tiny figurine of the EiffelTower, to remember when her whole family went to France. Then she stared from the windows of her house from outside, watching the washers erase all the memories that they had ever had from Erika. Now Erika was toying with her magsidian black swan pendant, feeling nervous for her first day of the prestigious academy called Foxfire. She had impressed the three councillors, Bronte, Alina, and Oralie by inflicting on all three of them, reading Bronte's mind, and speaking in ogreish. She had also exploded an expensive looking heavy armchair with her mind on the first try. That was the act that got all three councillors in favor of letting her join Foxfire, like Sophie, near the middle of the year. Focus, Erika told herself, don't think about the past, think about the future. She had this habit of losing herself by thinking and daydreaming about everything that's on her mind. Suddenly she snapped back to reality. "Ms. TushMan! Hello, you cannot waste your time daydreaming!" Mr. Forkle scolded her.

"Sorry Mr. Forkle." Erika said. "I'm ready to go to Foxfire and start a new life!"

"Good attitude you have there. Keep it up."

Since Erika had no adoptive parents yet, Mr. Forkle was her legal guardian. That meant Erika was stuck living in one of the Black Swan's hideouts under Mr. Forkles supervision. She looked at her bedroom with a plain bed and all her human things piled up on her desk one last time. Then she ran down to the Leapmaster 3000 and shouted "FOXFIRE" and she was swept away into the bright light.
