【 Third Person POV 】
For months on end, Macaque grappled with the challenge of finding a job with his subpar high school diploma. His sole means of maintaining a stable home and securing food was the remaining allowance from his parents, who still treated him like a child. While he appreciated their support, he yearned for independence
However, for now, that had to wait as he searched for a new source of entertainment. Macaque's eyes scanned the streets, seeking a store he had noticed a couple of times while driving home.
When his gaze finally settled on the familiar establishment, he opted to enter. The ringing of the door's bell upon opening startled Macaque briefly, but the artificial cheerfulness in the shop employee's voice quickly put him at ease. "Hello! How can I assist you today?" A young woman, not much younger than him, greeted him.
"I'm looking for the game section, if you have one," Macaque replied, his voice trailing off as he spoke.
"Sure, we do. It's right over there." She pointed to a corner with a shelf full of somewhat dirty toys and a few boxes of different video games. Macaque's face briefly scowled at the sight before returning to his usual expression.
"Thank you." Macaque walked over to the section and glanced around at the many options. Above the boxes, it read "$1 each sale." He began to pick up a few video games, searching for one that would catch his eye. Finally, one did.
The cover featured a soft pink background with four boys wearing a school uniform, each with their own distinctive features. One resembled a monkey, another had bright red hair, another wore a red bandana, and the last had round glasses.
Macaque pondered for a moment before making his decision. He selected the game and a couple of others, then headed to the register. When he stood before the same employee as before, he placed the games on the counter.
The employee gave him a cautious look after glancing at one of the games but refrained from voicing her concerns. She began scanning the game and said, "That will be $8. Will you be paying with cash or card?" She placed the games into a plastic bag. Macaque responded, "Cash," and handed over $10. Once he received his change, he took the bag and exited the store.

Once at home, Macaque placed the bag on his bed. Before even playing, he felt as though he needed some type of rest. He took this opportunity to rest his eyes. He lay comfortably on his bed as a couple of minutes passed by.
After a couple of minutes, the macaque stood up from his bed, letting out a loud yawn. He decided it was the perfect time to turn on his PC and try out the new games. From there, he looked through the bag for the familiar pink-toned game. Once he found it, he took it out of the small box and placed it into the DVD drive.
His computer took a couple of minutes to boot up the game. Once loaded, the screen flashed brightly with a few words Macaque couldn't read in time. Right afterward, four figures materialized, just like the ones on the cover, each with distinct poses and expressions.
Macaque felt uneasy as he hovered over the 'New game' button but pressed it nonetheless. The screen turned pitch black, and the unease turned into terror as something began emerging from the screen. At lightning speed, a hand gripped his neck, pulling his face towards the inky blackness. He struggled to break free from the mysterious hand's grip, but it was futile.
He shut his eyes, finally giving up and expecting his face to collide with the screen, but nothing happened. Absolutely nothing.
When Macaque's numb body finally regained consciousness, he opened his eyes to the bright sun. He glanced down at his chest, seeing himself in a uniform similar to the four boys on the cover.
He also noticed that his body felt different. His teeth felt sharper, his nose felt altered, his entire body felt transformed. Macaque's thoughts were interrupted by a familiar voice behind him, something about childhood friends, or so he thought.
Although confused and incredibly stressed, his body and voice acted autonomously.
Macaque allowed the boy with the red bandanna to catch up to him. The boy was panting. "Haaahh... Haaaaahh... I overslept again!" He complained, walking beside Macaque. "But I caught you this time." He grinned victoriously as they both started walking together. "Maybe, but only because I chose to stop and wait for you," Macaque spoke, lacking control over his voice. It was a shocking experience.
"You're so mean, Mac!" Mk whined dramatically as he twirled around. Macaque sighed. "I mean, if people stare at you for acting strangely, I don't want them to think we're friends or something." Macaque felt uneasy; the words he spoke didn't feel like his own.
"Fineeee... But you did wait for me, after all. I guess you don't have it in you to be mean even if you wanted to!" He giggled, rather loudly. Macaque sighed.
"Whatever you say, Mk." Macaque took note of the name and deduced that it was the boy's name.
