A Look Into My Past

I wake up to the light of the sun beaming through the windows. There's a weight on my chest. I already know who it is so I don't care to check. I'm surrounded by white walls, not so hard to figure out that I'm in a hospital room. I don't feel like getting up, maybe I should just play dead.

"Huhh," I sigh then close my eyes once again.

"Ambi, you're up?" Well there goes my sleep.

"Mhm" I mumble.

"So you failed again huh?" He sits up in his chair.

"Seems like it"

"That's good"

"Guess so," I sigh in irritation. He squeezes my hand, I guess it was for comfort. I close my eyes once again.

Daiki Sota has been through a lot with me since childhood. He's always going through so much for me. I don't want to keep burdening him. Daiki's the closest thing I have to family. I have to cherish that.

"So how'd I get to the hospital?" I know 'That Man' didn't spend his leisure time driving all the way over here.

"Your old man left you in my hands. He went through a lot of trouble getting you out of that room you know, ?"

"Yeah," Daiki doesn't know about 'That Man' and what he does to me. I never told him. I was afraid he'd never look at me the same again. I can't blame him for taking 'That Man's' side again.

I guess he got tired of my vague answers because next thing I know he's standing up yelling at me.

"Why'd you lock the door this time!? What if he wouldn't gotten to you fast enough? Do you really wanna die!? Huh Ambi?" Am I really supposed to answer this? Daiki knows my intentions more than else. 'Of course I want to die,' I tell myself.
'I want life to be easier for you Dai-kun.' He doesn't seem to know this though.

"Fuck! Ambrosia, answer me.!" I decide against answering pointless questions.
Instead I sit up and decide to have a little inquiry of my own.

"How long has it been?" I ask him sitting myself up straight in the hospital bed. He can tell that I'm changing the topic and decides to calm down again.

I never see Daiki lose his calm demeanor and his careless composure. Only in times like this. I'm sad but not because he's stressed. I'm upset because I'm still here and if I was gone already then there would be no reason for him to lose himself like this. It brings a sharp pain to my chest just thinking about it.

"Just three hours," he tells me leaning against the wall near the window.

'Great that's a new record'.

"And I'm completely healed right?"

"Yes, Ambi," he seems irritated, "you shouldn't play around with this stuff, what if next time you don't get up? What will I do then?" I can tell he's angry but he says this all so calmly, albeit through clenched teeth.

When I was 4 I fell off a tree at the playground behind the Kindergarten Daiki and I went to. None of the other kids in the class would play with me because I was 'different', I was often bullied so instead of playing on the swing set or in the sandbox like the other kids, I would always go and play with my tree. Naturally I was always alone unless Daiki came to invite me to play with him.

This particular day I decided to climb to the very top of a tree that was 518 centimeters and got stuck. I was afraid to climb back down and all of the students saw but didn't help me. Except for Daiki, he called for the teacher when he heard me crying and then rushed up the tree himself. He didn't get very far. The students were all circled around me and calling me a crybaby so I decided to get down myself. So the incident wasn't much of a fall but that's what it was dubbed.
