The people here live in constant paranoia. Being hunted is no fun. Who knows, maybe as I sit here, my Equivalent is out there, stalking me.

Ready to pounce at me as if I was his prey. I knew it was going to be hard for me to kill, but I had to if I wanted to live.

I sighed and took another sip of my coffee. As I glanced up at the TV in the corner, I can see the names of those who died yesterday running across the bottom as the woman spoke about the weather.

A patrolman walked inside the coffee shop and sat down a chair from me. We exchanged a glance and a greeting smile, but nothing else.

Immediately, he was attended to.

Patrolmen were meant to keep violence from happening, and they were meant to protect any person from going to far. They were the most respected citizen in the streets and were to be taken care of immediately.

Suddenly, a man walked into the building, holding a knife.

Another man immediately hopped out of his chair and ran for the back door, but it was locked. Once the man started begging for his life I turned away. The sound of his painful cries as the knife was repeatedly plunged into him made me shudder and cringe. When it was too much to bear, I got up and left.

I glanced back inside to see the patrolman stop the man from going any further.

For the most part, they did do their job. However, they could do nothing about preventing trauma. In fact, some patrolmen beat citizens up for cowardice and displaying fear.

Yet it's the higher ranked patrolmen you have to be afraid of. All of the security cameras attached to the stores, street lamps, and workplaces and school, inside and out, were monitored by the Upper Patrolmen. All suspicious action will be reported to them, and all they have to do is follow you closely.

We are always watched. We are always inferior. And until we have neutralized our Equivalent, we are always hunted.
