Bertolt's POV

At first, I couldn't tell if it was him. He was turned away from me. But after carefully analyzing everything, from the way he was standing to his facial features, I knew it was him.

"Connie," I said quietly at first. "Connie!" I said a little louder.

He turned around at his name, but then he saw me, and turned away in disgust. I made my way past the crowd and to where he was standing. He stood patiently at the bus stop while I was rushing up to him.

He looked a lot different in person. It wasn't only the eyepatch or the scar. It was also his expression and aura. He changed a lot from when I last saw him even if he might have been just as bitter.

"What?" he muttered.

"I just haven't seen you in a while," I said. "I just wanted to say 'hello'."

He appeared to ridicule my statement. "Really?"

"Look, Connie," I began," I know you are mad at Annie, but-"

"Of course I'm mad at her," Connie interrupted. "But I knew that Sasha was weak. Even when she was alive, I knew that Annie would be the one to win that battle." He glared at me with his one good eye. "Everyone could have seen it coming. Nobody could have done anything about it. But I'm also mad at you."

"Why me?" I asked.

He violently grabbed my collar and pulled me down so we were face to face, which was quite awkward considering the height difference. "You drove the car."

"Annie shot her," I argued. "She would have died anyway."

"But you put everyone in the hospital, didn't you? You did this to my eye, didn't you?" He asked, each time, he yanked my collar a little more, nearly suffocating me.

I didn't know how to respond. Connie has picked up a significantly more negative mental state than before. Even if he was Connie, the Connie we knew years before already died inside. He pushed me away, causing me to stumble backwards.

"So who's the guy?" Connie asked.

I sighed for I knew what was going to come next.

"Hello there, Connie. I'm Reiner Braun..."

Here it comes.

"Bertolt's Equivalent," he said as blunt as ever.

And there it is.

Connie stared at me, them him, then to me again. "Are you actually serious?"

"Unfortunately," I said quietly.

"Well then, we know who's going to die here," he stared at me. "And while you're here, playing footsies with your Equivalent, I will moving closer towards my victim. And I will destroy him."

"Why don't you just wait a while," Reiner shrugged.

"Pardon?" Connie asked in annoyance.

"Let the person live a little," Reiner stated. "It's not fun to die right off the bat."

Was this why he let me live for so long? So there was a possibility that he was like me, and wouldn't dare kill even though it is accepted as morally right. Maybe I wasn't alone after all.

"Besides, suspense is always more fun for the person who is causing it," he smirked.

Or maybe he was still a crazy psychopath.

Connie scoffed at his comment. "Look," he glared at Reiner. "Your ideas are irrelevant. If you make them wait, then you are waiting as well. Next thing you know, you have no time left."
