Alysanne
The early morning dew clung to her hair and lashes as Alysanne and Crimson walked through the gardens, enjoying the chill in the air, that would dissipate the moment the sun crested in the sky. It was said that the summer would continue for another year, but she hoped that the cold mornings were a sign that autumn was well on its way.
"Alysanne."
"Aemond," she greeted, continued to walk across the lawns; stroking her hand affectionately through Crimson's fur.
"I'm surprised to see you awake at such an hour..." he commented.
"Sleep was hard sought," she replied simply. Birdsong and the sound of Crimson's sniffing was the only noise between them.
"I wanted to thank you, actually," Aemond admitted. Alysanne gave pause, turning to look at him in surprise. "For what you did for Elin; for not letting my mother threaten her."
"I know that you think I'm a horrible person for leaving Elin behind, Aemond, but I thought about her every single day I was gone. I know that leaving was a rash decision and, while I regret the pain I caused her, I don't regret going. Your brother thrives away from here..."
"Away from my mother, you mean," he corrected.
"Yes," she admitted.
"I used to think he just had no sense of duty," Aemond told her as they trailed alongside the flowerbeds, "I see it more, now, especially with the way she treats me for refusing her."
"I love Elin, and I will always do what I can to stand beside her, and you, by extension, Aemond. Not only are you my brother by marriage, but you are courting my beloved lady... You are courting her, officially, aren't you?" she asked directly.
"As soon as she allows me to," he replied with a shrug.
"Elin needs time... She's been through—"
"Yes, I know." Aemond replied. Alysanne's heart fell into her stomach as she remembered what Elin told her.
"How long have you known?" she asked.
"The moment my mother first heard a whisper that I was bedding Elin, she sent the spymaster for information. I've known for a while now..."
"And you still—"
"She was still a child. I can't blame her for what some fucking monster did. I love her, Lys."
"What did you just call me?" Alysanne asked, nearly tripping over her own skirts. Aemond smirked down at her.
"You are my sister, now, are you not? I can't very well call you Aly, as your husband does. And, no matter what El calls you, Annie just doesn't suit you." Then he continued walking as if he hadn't just accepted her as family and made her chest tighten. "And I'm sorry," he added, spinning around to face her, "for being so rough with you yesterday. Aegon was pissed." Alysanne waved it off, hurrying to catch up. Her ribs still ached, but she wasn't going to hold a grudge over that.
"That's alright, sometimes rough is good. Your brother has been rougher—" The moment she voiced the thought, her eyes widened in horror, and she slapped her hand over her mouth.
"Good to know," Aemond retorted, smirking as she flushed with embarrassment.
"I swear, I'm better off just keeping my mouth closed..." she muttered.
"Now, I'm certain my brother likes it wide open..." he teased.
"Aemond!" Alysanne smacked him in the chest, and he gave her a playful shove, earning a growl of warning from the wolf at her side.
