Rain looks around in amazement. This is his first look at Tsendra City and he is trying to look at everything at once. The first thing that attracts his notice is the buildings. When Rain had been a small child, visiting his grandparents in Korea, he had fallen in love with the architecture of the ancient ruins they had toured. Since then that has developed into a love of architecture in general. The city around him has architecture beyond his wildest imagination.
Everything appears to be different styles, colors and building materials and yet it fits together like the most beautiful piece art. Rain hesitantly reaches out a building in a delicate peach color that looks like it is made of the most delicate sandstone. It seems as if it might crumble at a touch and yet what he feels is metal.
Between the buildings are pocket parks full of beautiful flowers and greenery, or Rain guesses in this case the word should be pinkery. Across the street is what looks to be a mini waterfall worked into a water feature centered in one of the pocket parks.
Rain could spend years just studying the architecture of this place.
Then there are the people. Rain uses the word for lack of anything else but while some are very human looking there are others with extremely distinctive looks. Rain tries not to stare, feeling it would be rude, but a tall creature with silverish blue skin and long silver hair catches his attention. The creature looks over at Rain and nods.
P’Phayu puts his arm around Rain and shakes his head at the creature. “Stop flirting.” he whispers harshly in Rain’s ear.
Rain sputters at this, “I didn’t do anything.”
“You looked, that’s enough for an Artivian you might as well be wearing a sign that says let’s fuck.” P’Phayu says.
Rain gasps, “I didn’t mean it.” Rain quickly looks away from the alien hiding his face against P’Phayu’s shoulder in embarrassment. “Wait a minute, Artivians, P’Pai mentioned them. Who are they?”
P’Phayu sighs at this, “He would. To put it in terms someone from your planet would understand it, every adult on the planet is considered to be in a polyamorous relationship with every other adult on the planet. They can and often do have consensual and extremely public sex and sometimes even schedule planetwide orgies as part of their holiday celebrations.”
“Oh, that’s interesting.” Rain means it. He wants to find out more but there is no time, they have to meet the sky car that will take them to the palace. P’Phayu’s parents are waiting for them. Rain is starting to feel butterflies again over meeting the royal family, despite P’Phayu’s comforting words of the night before.
The palace itself is made of a material similar to the building Rain had admired in the city. This time of the most delicate bluish green color. If water could be used as a building material, Rain imagines it would be this color. There are many octagonal shaped windows that look more like frosted crystals than glass. The grounds are immaculately kept and looks like a soft pink carpet. Rain just barely resists the urge to kneel down and run his hands over it to see if it feels as soft as it looks. A cobblestone like path in the same color and material as the palace surrounds the buildings.
Rain is so busy studying the building and grounds that he doesn’t notice the woman waiting for them at first. When he does he wonders if she is a servant that will show them in like some of the victorian melodrama series he has watched.
