Chapter 4

It has been a few days since the disaster party and Gemma still isn't talking to me, that girl Carly from the party found my Instagram and followed me and DM'd me and told me about how her job was hiring so I have officially started a summer job, We are both waitresses out on monkey island for a big country club type thing; it is normally not mine or her scene but the people are rich and tip well, so if I'm going to survive living in Oregon next year, I'll need to start saving up some money. It was always hard to save money around my mom because she would find it and take it, I mean how much money did she need from me? She already got
A hefty amount of child support from my dad that I never saw a dime of, there is a reason I haven't spoken to her since I've gotten here, and honestly she probably doesn't care and is just focused on Joey and making him happy.
I am so thankful for Carly right now because honestly being around my dad the last couple of days has been something else, he is really mad at me for "betraying Gemma" but god I didn't, and no one will listen to me, and I don't want to go to Theo and beg for his defense, but Carly already tried to reach out to Gemma for me and it made her feel even more embarrassed. I don't know when Gemma got so self centered but I'm really not liking this side of her, which is unusual bc I never thought I'd dislike any side of her.
Carly and I rode together to work tonight and we are about to pull away whenever one of our co workers stops us, she is a girl a few years older than us and she says "hey girls, you guys doing anything tonight?"
"No I don't think so, why you ask" Carly says to

"We are having a bonfire tonight if you guys want to come? There will be drinks and it should be a good time" she said back
"I'm down, but I'm not drinking, bad shit happened last time I drank I say to Carly
"Okay you be the dd, we go into town, change and then go pick up Joaquin?" She said then smiled at me
"Sure; we can go pick up your boyfriend" I say then roll my eyes.
"Okay girls it starts at 11 and it's 10 o clock now so hurry up" she says
We then just wave her off and drive away
"Can I stay with you tonight?" I say to Carly
"Hmm I don't know; I'm pretty sure Joaquin was going to stay with me" she said back
"It's fine, I'll figure it out, I'm just nervous coming home late from a party" I say to her
"Your dad let you get a job at the country club, he knows we all party out here, and plus it's a way different scene then what was at emeralds the other night; these people are actually cool and don't act like children just because some guy doesn't like them" Carly says then snickers to herself.
"Girl, even know Gemma isn't talking to me, she is still my best friend and I just wont talk shit on her, no matter how much she deserves it at the moment" I say then sigh
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to make you upset, I just still can't believe she won't hear you out."
"It's totally her friends, they all didn't like me from the get"
"Yeah, that's just how those girls are, they wanted nothing to do with Gemma until fisher got hot, they knew if they were nice to her then one of them could date fisher."
"Oh god they really are shallow bitches"
"The most shallow." She chants back to me.
"I'm just glad I met one good person in this town" I say back to her and smile
"Trust me, Theo isn't a bad guy. He just isn't used to a girl not wanting him"

"Yeah but if Gemma wouldn't have said she liked him, you can't tell me you wouldn't have dated him or at least made out with him"
"Well......you're not wrong" I say back all shy.
"There isn't anything wrong with that, it just sucks you did the right thing and she still won't hear you out about it."

We walk into the lake house and I look over to my right and my dad and Pluto are just sitting on the couch relaxing, he has sports on and they look happy and a slight smile came across my face just seeing how peaceful and calm they look.
"Hey kiddo, stop right there" he says to me
So Carly and I just stop in our path
"Hey dad, can I help you?" I mutter back
"I just want to be introduced to whoever you're bringing into my house" he said all stern
"Hello sir, I'm Carly Mitchell, you know my dad" she says and then lightly waves
"Oh you're Cody Mitchell's kid?" He says and raises his eyebrow
"Yep, that's my dad" she says and shrugs
"So you're replacing Gemma now?" He said and sighed
"No? I can have more then one friend" I say then scoff
"Well summer will fly by faster then you know it, also nice to meet you Carly" he said then smiled
"Nice to meet you too sir"
We both then proceeded up the stairs and made it into my room
"Sorry my dad is such a dick" I say as I'm shutting the door
Carly made her way to my bed to sit down and I starting going through my closet
I really need som new clothes
"Your dad wasn't a dick, but I knew mentioning my dad would get me an in, I can't believe our dads have been playing cards together every Sunday for the last 5 years and we have never met until this year."
"My dad plays cards?" I say questionably
"Yeah, and he is good, him and a few other guys from work all go out to grand lake casino every Sunday and go play, that's probably how he has been affording all these renovations on the house"
"Does your dad like my dad? I say as I'm holding a t shirt up to myself  trying to picture it on me
"Yeah, so much that my dad didn't even question me when I said I was hanging out with you tonight or ever" she said then smiled at me
Carly is really pretty
She has a boyfriend...
I finally decided on my outfit, a pair of black high waisted distressed shorts and a black tank top and some checkered vans, I put my hair down and I brushed it and reapplied my eyeliner. This is definitely enough for me
"God you're so naturally beautiful" Carly says to me
"I was just thinking the same about you" I say and then I can feel my face blushing
"Let's go!" She says as she jumps off the bed.
We start making our way down stairs and my dad is at the door
"Where are you guys going" he says to us
"We are going to a bonfire with a few of our co workers" I say to him, not breaking eye contact
"Are they adults?" He says back
"Dad, I'm an adult"
"Barely; okay so it's almost 11 now, I want you home in the door by 2 am" he says back
"That can be arranged" Carly says with a smile
"Okay I'll try" I say back and smirk.
"You will be here at 2 am, my house my rules"
"God since when did you decide to be a dad" I say all smug.
The look on my dads face fell, he genuinely looked hurt by me saying that but I don't care, I know there is so much more he could've done for me and he didn't.
We both walked out the door and I got behind the wheel
"Did Alexa drop you the location?" I say to Carly
"Uh yeah we are just partying at the club but uh I guess you and your dad don't have a good relationship?" She said to me softly
"Yeah, it's complicated but it's whatever, I'm 18 now and grown, he had his chance to step up and didn't so I can only keep moving forward"
"Yeah, I'm sorry you had to go through that"
"I'm okay, really I am, but where does Joaquin live?"
"Oh he got a ride with Theo, they are meeting us there"
"Theo is coming??" I exclaim
"Yeah he is, but you look good, he won't be able to resist" Carly said back and giggled
"Yeah uhh I'm good Carly, I really am"
"I hope you and I become super close because holy shit you are LOYAL" she said to me and grinned
