The next morning.

Jean's POV

I woke up to the sound of the alarm going off, I sighed while turning it off. I could feel the throbbing pain between my legs because of last night. Hah..why did I even feel so worked up like that but meh at least she'll be in less danger and risk now. While I was getting ready for work, Li woke up too and had breakfast, I could see her limping and hissing. Serves you good, my soul left my body after what happened yesterday. Who the hell told you that you could go somewhere? Wait. No, I wasn't bothered. Hm. 

''I'll go now. Remember, behave.'' I said while putting on the watch and shoes. 

''...'' She just nodded and came after me. 

''Oh, and this is for you, in case you want to contact me, ask for something, etc, It already has my number and important stuff in it,'' I said while handing her the mobile. 

''Okayy..'' She said. I was about to step out when she grabbed my wrist and started pleading. 

''Can I please come with youu? Pretty please, let me comeeee, hubby!''

''Huh? Why do you even want to come? No, just stay here.'' I said. 

Li's POV 

''I don't want to be away from you!! Please take me with you bubbyyy!'' I started crying after he denied it. You have no idea Jean how important it is for me to go. 

''You have the mobile for calling me anytime, now stop-'' I clung to him as he spoke. 

''I wanna go with chu..pwease...'' He sighed and just walked out, I went with him. Thank God I already wore the skirt and button-up so I didn't have to change. Soon enough we reached his office. I followed him inside and made sure to memorize the location and set up of the office. 

''Um, I'll go back home now. Good luck with work hubby.'' I said while kissing his cheek. Hah..why do I feel bad doing all this? Why do I feel like I'm actually in love with him now? 

''But you don't know the way, Li.'' He said. He looked puzzled. Maybe it's because I kissed his cheek. 

''Um, I'll use the location hehe'' I said hoping he'd let it go but I didn't want him to let it go just like that either. I don't know it'd be as if he doesn't care and even thinking of it hurt. 

''Just come back or call me if you get stuck, I swear if you do something stupid again.'' He said sternly, I nodded. 

''Oh, who's this Professor Jean..?'' A girl asked. I frowned a bit because I felt jealous but I covered it with a smile. I can't have Jean get mad at me or else I won't be able to find Mei. 

''My girlfriend. Li, this is Olivia. She works with me.'' Jean said and I nodded. 

''Oh..'' Olivia said while eyeing me. It made me uncomfortable. 

''Nice to meet your girlfriend, Jean.'' An old man, I assume the Professor, said.

''Hm, yes Professor,'' Jean said and turned to me. ''Li, do what I said, I'll see you.'' I nodded and started to head back slowly. 

''Let's go to the lab now and see the creature for new discoveries,'' the Professor said. All three of them were heading to the lab, and I followed secretly. After all, I lied about going home, I just wanted to find Mei. 

''Heh..I thought you weren't so dense to see I was right here all along, Jean.'' Olivia said. Jean didn't say anything and continued to go through some files. They all entered a dark room with a lot of machines, tubes, stuff written here and there, and....a tank. I tried to look who maybe was there because I couldn't see through them standing in front of it. 

''How dare you guys hurt her just for the experiments?! She's a living thing too!'' Jean yelled. I was honestly scared...

''Olivia suggested to go ahead. You don't seem serious about this anyway.'' Professor said.

''This is MY project to deal with. Not hers or yours. I am serious, just not bloodthirsty!'' Jean snapped at the old man.

''So what if I took the lead..'' Olivia said. 

''Just- just stay silent right now because it won't take long for me to lose the bit of respect I have for you,'' Jean said. 

''Stop arguing you both. Work together.'' Professor said and Jean tch-ed. I was shocked when I saw her as Jean walked away to get something. Mei...I, my body moved on its own and I was in front of Mei now. Mei looked at me and she looked so terrified. My heart ached, I wanted to cry but I couldn't do it. Not here in front of them. 

Meg Mei and I tried communicating. I tried to get information about what might have happened with Mei. But Mei kept on signaling me to move and run away from those crazy monsters aka the scientists there. I wasn't able to fully understand what she meant so I questioned but Mei just screamed and it scared the people there. Jean pulled me and hugged me close as the glasses broke due to the scream and I could have been hurt. I sobbed in his chest, he patted my back. He gave me some water and I drank a bit. 

''Wait for me in the car.'' He said while handing me the keys. I hesitantly took them and went out. I got in the car and locked it. Tears scrolled down my cheeks and I was in so much pain to know Mei was so hurt. 

Jean's POV

I hissed as Li went out, while pulling her away I got injured by a fragment of glass. I removed that from my arm and put some ointment on it, covering it with a plaster. The Professor started blabbering about how Li was suspicious and all that.

''I'm telling you there is something strange about your wife. After all, she came from some unknown island and you don't even know her fully. Her background is suspicious.'' The professor said. Tch, no. I won't let them bring Li into this too now. No matter what. Even if she is a mystery, it's my problem, I won't let them get into this. I can't get her hurt too.

''Cut the crap, Professor. She's my girlfriend, I will not let you do something to her now.'' I said.

''Oh, Jean, and here I thought you weren't so dense,'' Olivia said while trying to hold my hand. I rolled my eyes at that and pulled my hand away. 

''Hmph..'' Olivia said. She thought I wouldn't notice the eye roll but I did. 

''You don't believe us then pour water on her feet and you will see it for yourself. She is not a human, Jean!'' Professor yelled at Jean. 

''I'll be going for now.'' With that, I stormed out of the office. Li unlocked the car as soon as she noticed I was there. I sat in and started driving right away. 

''Why did you come there?'' I asked.

''I-..I was just looking for the bathroom..'' Li said although it was obviously a lie. I sighed.

''Lie.'' I said.

''Sorry..just wanted to see it..heh mermaids are real, huh?'' Li asked. I nodded.

''Yeah, they do, and stop lying already, if something is there, just ask. Anyway, we will go home and on the way I'll get you something to eat, then you will rest.'' I said and just like that I got her some doughnuts and Thai boba. We got home and changed into casual clothes, she must've noticed the wound. 

''What happened to you hubbyyyy? Show me.'' She asked and was so concerned. It was hurting but nothing I couldn't handle. She took my arm.

''I'm fine, got hit during the accident earlier.'' She kissed it and it felt nice, and the pain seemed to have gone. I'm probably tired. She was getting some water when it accidentally fell on her, for some reason what the Professor said came to my mind. Well, she didn't transform or something. Whatever, she is my responsibility and I need to protect her. 

''Kid, ask for help next time,'' I said jokingly and she just said hmph. We both headed to bed. She came to me and I didn't say no. I accepted her so it's her right.
