~Part 3~
~Dr Annabelle~
The silence in my office for about half an hour, gave me time to work through some files I had received of new incoming patients. The father and daughter who were not currently on speaking term sat across from me, in awkward silence. Finally, Gerald sent me the results on my computer and I looked through them.
"The results are here." I paused to check if I had their attention before continuing, "They found MDMA in Valentina's system. Also known as ecstasy, I am sure you have heard of it"
George nodded, then cleared his throat "Yeah, yes I might have"
I hummed keeping eye contact with him, "Do you have any idea where Valentina got the pills from?"
George avoided eye contact and shook his head "Uh no but you know young people. She probably ran into the wrong crowd"
Valentina appeared to be sleepy and weak now, repeatedly swallowing as if her throat was dry. I grabbed a bottle of room temperature water from the side of my desk and placed it in front of the girl "Drink this"
She shook her head. I sighed and pressed the read button putting the receiver against my ear, "Incoming patient, MDMA currently in her system. Prepare a bed"
"Female or male"
"Female, young adult"
"Alright I will send them up"
I stood beside Valentina, observing how the high was leaving her to a crush, "Valentina, can you hear me?"
"Y-yes"
"A few nurses are about to come in here and take you with them. They will take care of you. Do you understand that?"
She slowly nodded, "Care for me?"
"Yes, I am gonna need you to let them do that. Alright?"
"Okay"
I eyed her father "George, thank you for bringing her in but we are going to take it from here" I took the signed forms and clipped them "If you may excuse us, Marilyn.." I pointed at the woman coming through the door "She will show you out"
"Okay. I will bring her bag with everything she needs" George stood up.
"There will not be any need for that. Patients here get uniforms and necessities." I placed my pen down "You can come for visits when informed to, that is the only time you are allowed to see the patient"
George knew there was no hug coming his way when he signed the papers. He left with a soft goodbye and a thank you for the favor. As much as I disliked the man, I understood how he felt. He was simply a failing in everything, including being a father. Three nurses stepped in one rolling a wheelchair. They helped Valentina get onto it then wheeled her out of the room. I followed them, keeping myself close so she could see me.
Once they got her on a bed, I stepped out of the room, leaving her with my assistant, two nurses and a doctor. Alone in the elevator, I thought about everything concerning Valentina. My biggest concern was her being suicidal. Did she want to be saved?. How long before she tried to take away her life, again?. I was not a God, I could only do so much for the patient. The rest was all up to her.
I went back to my work settling back in my routine for the rest of my office hours. I left work on time, having had all my work done. When I reached home, I took a hot bath and settled on a new book. Reading dark romance books, gave me some sort of insight in how the dating world worked.
Given that I had not been romantically involved with anybody for a very long time. I was living my life through characters. Not that, I did not have anybody interested in me. My last break up had been messy, more or so a bit of blood shed and a life was lost.
