Preface
Without the threat of the Soviet Union to rally the West, the world order began to change. The European Union brought together those of Western Europe, with the French Republic particularly eager to depose the United Kingdom as Europe's de facto leader after so many decades of Anglo-American dominance. The Federal Republic of Germany, in the process of rebuilding after the Cold War, was eager to curry favor with whichever side prevailed, and rising powers in the Far East began to draw the world's attention. Meanwhile, the United States continued to be distracted by obscure foreign wars, growing domestic divides, and its own greatness.
Soon, an ever-increasing sense of doom would descend over the United States—the American Empire, in all but name.
