A few weeks passed by, since their first mission. Neji continued to ask for more outside missions for him and Kasami. He enjoyed her company and liked how her eyes shone every time she saw something new. Neji's favorite memory of Kasami was when she saw a rainbow for the first time, the way she stared at the optical phenomenon was mesmerizing. She asked many questions that Neji found her adorable, not that he would admit it aloud.
They continued doing missions and training together until one day, Neji brought Kasami to the back of the Hyuga territory. They walked for more than 30 minutes until they found a clearing and a small lake. Kasami looked at her surroundings, she couldn't believe her eyes. The place was beautiful. There were tree stumps towards the end of the clearing and some damaged trees, but besides all of that, the place was beautiful.
"My father used to bring me here to train when I was a kid," Neji said looking at the damaged trees.
"It's a very beautiful place," Kasami said, looking at the lake.
"Yeah," Neji smiled and walked towards the lake, walking on the water as if he were walking on hard ground. "I didn't bring you here just for sightseeing, come."
Kasami stared at his extended hand, but she doubted to take it. They had practiced walking on water and walking up the tree trunks before, but because Kasami was still having a hard time controlling her chakra all of those simple techniques were extremely difficult for her.
"Chakra control is the most important skill there is for a shinobi, Kasami," Neji walked closer to her, "if you can't control your chakra then you are as good as a civilian."
Kasami turned to look at him with conflict in her eyes. She wanted to prove herself, and Neji knew this. "You know I can't swim," she said, looking down at the water.
"Take my hand," Neji said in a low tone, "take my hand and transfer chakra to your feet like I showed you."
Kasami did as she was told, she took a deep breath and took a step onto the water, then another and another until she was right in front of Neji. The honey eyed girl turned to look at those shiny silver eyes, he was already smiling at her. Neji slowly held both of her hands and closed the distance between the two.
"Don't be scared," he whispered close to her ear, "I won't let you fall."
Kasami felt her blood rush to her head and the crimson tone her cheeks took was evidence of how flustered she got. She slowly moved her head to look at Neji and when she realized how close they were, she lost all concentration and fell into the water, catching Neji off guard and bringing him down with her.
Kasami used everything in her power to hold onto Neji for dear life, "Nej-," she half shouted, and half swallowed water. For a moment, she was terrified, especially when her whole body went underwater. But once she felt two strong arms wrapping around her and lifting her, she felt a warm feeling through her body. Neji had her, he wasn't going to let her drown, and she trusted him.
