Esme Carter

The ceiling is all I mostly saw as I slept. I only slept for maybe three hours until I heard something fall outside the room I'm staying in and I never went back to sleep after so I ended up staring at the ceiling.

A small bell begins to ring in the room causes me to slip from a small tranquil-like state and look over to see where the high-pitched sound is coming from. There are bells in the rooms? What is it for?

I think what could this possible bell be for as I remember Jeffery pulling a small bell in the corner of the kitchen for dinner. Could this be the breakfast bell? I guess there is only one way to find out.

Even though I did not sleep, the bed was still very comfortable. This kind of comfortability should only be possible in hotel beds. I roll over and grab my phone. My mother texted me at six a.m. notifying me she was off to work which means Mrs.Sinn is most likely gone as well. I don't work at the coffee shop till three today and I get off at six from there. Bri is supposed to take me to her tennis lesson after I get off of work, she says it'll be fun. I know she only wants me to go to get me out of my house.

After I leave here I need to sleep and clean the house then pre-cook dinner for when my mother gets home around six-thirty today. I sit up and look around the room finding the heavy curtains blocking most of the light from flooding into the room. I switch on the stained glass lamp beside the bed and turn to get out of the bed. My legs dangle off the tall wooden bed barely covered by Easton's plaid green boxers. I never expected him to let me wear his clothes but here we are.

I get up from the bed even though I'm sure someone is going to come back in here and clean and go to grab my bag to get ready. The knock on the door stops me from entering the bathroom and I turn to open the door to the bedroom first. Easton stands there in what looks like his pajamas. I didn't think he could get any cuter but his tousled bed hair and rising heat on my cheeks is saying otherwise.

"Yes?" I squeak out. My voice is already naturally high-pitched pitched and my onset nervousness isn't making it any better. He holds out a pile of clothes that look like what I was wearing yesterday. He cleaned them. My heart swells and starts beating fast as I see this. That's really sweet, I know his mother charged him with being responsible for me but I never thought he'd do it. "Thank you." I whisper. Easton nods, acknowledging my gratitude. "Get ready and come to breakfast. Twenty minutes." He signs. Easton goes to turn away but for some reason, I blurt out. "Yes sir."  while signing it causing him to stop and slightly turn around to me.

Did he hear me?

Could he hear?

No, he probably saw my hands move. The embarrassment strikes me as I realize I yes sirred him and I slip back into the room and close the door. That was so stupid and pathetic. Why would I do that? You couldn't think of anything else to say, Esme. I bang my head against the wall. I guess lucky for me he can't hear me.

I push my overwhelming embarrassment aside and change and get ready, putting my hair into braids, leaving some baby hairs out to frame my face. I slip my shoes on, grab my packed bag, and make sure I have everything so that when breakfast is over I can leave.

The house is fairly quiet as I go downstairs. Everything smells clean, fresh, and like some kind of flower. The sunlight is pouring into the house perfectly with the floors shining and the aesthetic of the house just fitting some well together. I would never get tired of waking up if I woke up to this.

I turn into the kitchen and find Jeffery fixing a flower arrangement. "Good morning Miss Carter, Breakfast is in the breakfast nook, just around the corner." He tells me. "Good morning Jeffery and thank you." I greet him. Jeffery smiles at me and returns to fixing the pink and purple flowers in front of him.

I take a breath, make my way around the corner, and find Alicia and Jace sitting at the breakfast nook. "Well if it isn't the babysitter Easton dragged in." Jace says. "Where is our dear brother? Isn't he your handler?" Alicia smiles. "I'm not sure," I answer, not very loudly. I clutch the bag on my shoulder out of nervousness, hoping to calm myself down. I can do this. "Shame he left you all alone with us." Jace smirks.

That can't be good.

"Esme, how did you sleep?" Alicia asks. I didn't expect her to say something so nice. "I didn't really." I answer loud enough for them to hear, only looking down for just a moment. "Me either, I was up all night thinking how to kill you." Jace comments. I start to blink rapidly being caught off guard.

"Oh nice of you to join us, brother. We were just talking about our nights with Esme." Alicia says. I'm guessing Easton just walked in. "Breakfast is served." Jeffery comes out with platters and starts placing plates down. Alicia moves closer to Jace to make room for us. When Easton doesn't sit, I take it. He wants me to go first.

I walk over to the seats but don't make it very far before I feel myself falling. "Careful, you'd hate to land in the wrong hands." Jace says as he catches me in his lap. I stare at him for a moment before standing up and walking around to the other side. Easton sits down after me.

Everyone at the table is silent as we uncover our meals of French Toast, fruit, biscuits, and bacon. There are even three pitches of juices and assortments of jellies on the table.

"Oh look, there is no syrup. Esme, would you mind fetching some from the cellar?" Jace asks. Me? Why me? I look up at him a bit confused. "What, you are our babysitter." He shrugs.  "I'll go with you." Easton signs and stands up. I follow Easton out of the breakfast nook and down the hall where the basement is but to a different room, this one kind of looks like a pantry and has a self-closing door.

We both start to look around for the syrup and there is a lot to look through, it's like a mini-mart in here.  As we look through a looking sound enters my ears. Easton marches over to the door and checks it.

"We're locked in." He signs to me as he turns back around.
