I stare at the invitation in hand still shocked I even have one. An invitation to the Sinn Summer Charity Ball. One of the most prestigious events held on our town over summer besides the debutant ball and the Miss Summer Solstice Pageant.

Dear Esme J Carter
We are pleased to inform you of your invitation to the Sinn Summer Charity Ball as an honored guest. Please arrive between the times of 7:20pm-8pm as dinner will begin at eight.
Attached are the menus you may choose from. Please choose one and list your allergies and drop the paper off at the NewFell Country Club.
This is a formal event. Please dress accordingly. Failure to do so will prompt removal. We hope to see you in attendance.

Thank you- Sinn Family

When I showed Aubrielle the invitation she freaked out and demanded we have to shop for a new dress. I didn't fight her this time because I have no formal wear for this event outside of two of my high school prom dresses.

"Mom?" I call out walking around into the kitchen. "Mom?" No one answers. I know I'm not a loud speaker but I couldn't be talking that low. "Mom?"

"I'm sorry sweetheart, I was in the garage." She comes around the corner and sits her purse on the counter. "I didn't know you left." I tell her. I've been home all day since it's my day off form both jobs and I never heard her leave or say she was leaving. "I'm sorry I went to get items for dinner tonight, your father will be coming over." She tells me and I notice the other Walmart bags she brought in. "What are we having?" I open the refrigerator and find a can of Coke and take it out. "Stuffed jumbo pasta shells and cherry pie." Dad's favorite.

I just hum in response and drink my soda. "Have you been okay today?" She asks and I nod. "I'm going shopping with Bri for a dress for the hall later." I remind her just so she knows I'm leaving. "Okay be careful and how much do you need?"

"It's fine mom I can pay." She really doesn't need to spend money on a new ball gown for me. It's probably too expensive. "I want to contribute something so at least take this." Mom hands me an $100 bill from her purse. I go to give it back but I don't bother seeing her face.

Today I take it.

"Thank you mom." I hug her feeling grateful that my mother doesn't mind giving when she already has so much she can't do and she still does this.

This is why I'd do anything for her because she's always do anything for me. I love my mom.

"I love you."

"I love you more mom."

After a while I decide I should get ready and change since I've been in pajamas all day. Normally I would get somewhat ready but today all I wanted was sleep and tv. I've been so focused on work I haven't done anything for myself but today I did. I repainted my toes light pink, I washed my hair, I drew some drawing ideas I've had which I'll have to finish and I cleaned my mom.
