I shut the door behind me as me and Akio walk into my room. I'd hoped to show him around the rest of the house, and maybe around the rest of the pack as well, but he didn't look like he wanted to explore much. Akio stands in the middle of the room, looking around seemingly in amazement.
"Like what you see?" I ask him. He doesn't answer. I go over and sit on my bed, glancing at him with intrigue.
'He's certainly an alluring one...' I hear my wolf, Raru, say.
'Yeah...I agree.' I watch Akio walk around the room, looking at everything with a childish sense of wonder. My mouth curves upwards in a small smile. I tap the spot right next to me. Akio turns around and shoots me an uncertain look. He hesitates for a moment, before coming to sit next to me on my bed.
"So..."
"This is a really nice room." I hear Akio say.
"Yeah. One of the perks of being the alpha's kid." I joke. He lets out a shalow breath, glancing at the picture on my bedside table. I pick the picture up and hold it closer to our faces. He studies it closely.
"It's a picture of my tenth birthday." I tell him. "My father took this right as I shifted."
Akio stares with intrigue. Then I notice his expression soften into one of sadness.
"Something bothering you?" I ask. He's hesitant at first and just looks away rather than answering my question. I notice him holding onto the necklace around his neck tightly. I set the picture down on the bedside table.
"Does it have something to do with your pack?" I ask softly. He doesn't respond right away, only nodding his head a few seconds later.
"Do you wanna talk about it?"
He doesn't answer. Instead he just sits there staring at the wall, as if memories were playing on repeat or something. I put my hand on his shoulder and shoot him a tender glance. He's startled by the movement, but doesn't seem to mind my hand on his shoulder.
"I know you still don't fully trust me, having gone rogue for years now, and I get that. But as a future alpha, I want everyone in my pack to live happy." I tell him calmly. He stares at me silently with a look of curiosity. I continued.
"I want to help you. I want to make your stay here as comfortable as possible. But I can't do that if you don't tell me." I take my hand off his shoulder. "I won't force you to if you don't want to. But If you are comfortable enough with it, you can talk to me."
He stays silent and turns away. I sigh and get up, making my way to my bedroom door.
"I have a bunch of spare clothes in my dresser. Feel free to change into those if you-"
"Wait."
I stop in my tracks and turn my head to him. His voice was soft. Akio stares at me for a second, seeming to struggle to find the right words. Until his speaks again.
"I...I can talk about it."
I go over to him and sit back down on the bed next to him. His hesitancy towards me is somewhat adorable. He looks to the side for a bit.
"...my father. My pack... I'd lost them on my tenth birthday..."
"The day you shifted...? Oh, I'm so sorry, Akio. It must be been tough for you."
"It was." He replies softly. "I went out to my little tree house deep in the forest and played there for so long that I didn't even notice the moon come up. And by the time I realized that someone had set fire to the pack, it was already too late..."
I stare at the smaller boy with a sympathetic expression. I feel my heart shatter in my chest at the words.
"Do you know who?" I ask. He nods his head.
"My father's brother from a rival pack. I can't remember much about his reasoning from what he said, but he really hated my dad. So he sent a squad of wolves to kill everyone in my pack. It just so happen that going into the forest led to me being the only one who survived."
I stayed silent for a minute, gathering my thoughts and trying to word my next sentence carefully. But Akio beats me to it as he holds his necklace in his hands.
"...this necklace was his; my father's. To him, it was just a little trinket he kept around. But now its all I have left of him..."
I notice a small tear trickling down his face. He wipes it away and faces me with a half smile.
"But that was years ago. No use in reliving the past...right?"
The room quickly grew silent. For a minute, I find myself staring at Akio with a mixture of sympathy and intrigue. Raru's voice rings in my head.
'Such a troubled werewolf.'
'Yeah...'
The two of us sit in silence for a little longer before I let out a sigh. I decide to try something a little bold and put my arm around him in an attempt to comfort him. Except, the moment I do, the markings on his arms begin to glow. He turns to me, his eyes glowing a bright blue, growling menacingly.
I move my hand quickly, raising them both in defense. "Okay, okay! Not at that stage yet, got it."
His eyes and markings quickly lose their glow as his gaze softens.
"Sorry. Self defense mechanism." Akio says shyly. I chuckled.
"No, I should've asked first." I say. "Don't apologise."
"...okay." He replies. I get up onto my feet.
"Alright. Well, I'll go grab us some food. I'm sure you're hungry. In the meantime, pick out what you wanna wear from my closet." I say making my way to the door. Akio shoots me a puzzled glance.
"What's wrong with what I'm currently wearing?"
"Nothing. I just think you'd be more comfortable in different clothing." I reply.
"And you don't mind?"
"Not at all." I smile. "Sit tight, I'll be back in a bit."
