Hessen did not really expect to face the Commander directly after such a battle. Normally people holding positions of high authority are holed up in an office somewhere, usually guarded by several guards and hidden by meter-thick concrete walls. She especially expected this to be the case of the Commander; After all, he was essentially commanding a base full of sentient warships capable of leveling entire buildings in an instant.

And yet, he stood there directly in front of her with a smile on his face, surrounded by the kansen he commanded. He reached out for a handshake, to which Hessen complied.
"Greetings! I assume you to be Hessen, correct? I must thank you personally for the impactful support you just demonstrated for us all. I am the Commander of the fleet known as the 'Azur Lane' – It is a pleasure to meet you."

"Nice to meet you too. So you are the Commander of the entire faction?"

"Yep, you may put it like that. You can simply address me as 'Commander', although some prefer to call me 'Shikikan' or even simply 'SKK'. Pick your poison, I'd say!"

The Commander was the absolute opposite of what Hessen expected. She expected someone with a big ego, perhaps with a bit of arrogance. And yet, on first glance, the Commander appeared very friendly and gentle. An aura of calmness surrounded him, somehow making her feel at peace.

"You know, Hessen, you caused me worry since the moment I first received reports about you from Enterprise."
He looked at her and her damaged rigging. He could not believe that despite all this, she still decided to throw herself into battle to help defend the Azur Lane's home. For that, he was grateful.

"First you burst into fire and suffered a detonated engine, had to survive being towed all the way here - and as if it was not bad enough, you then got dragged directly into a major battle. I must sincerely apologize about all of this – you are most likely extremely exhausted currently."

"Don't apologize, it was not the fault of you or your fleet. And about the battle just now - I could not simply stand there and do nothing."

"And for that, you have my and everyone else's thanks. But how about we continue this conversation in my office? I believe a nice chair is far more comfortable than just standing around on the docks."

"That's fine by me."
The Commander smiled at her again before turning towards the other shipgirls surrounding them nearby.
"Enterprise, can you please come here?"

Enterprise stepped forward.
"Yes, Commander?"

"Please notify Vestal and the appropriate Manjuus to commence damage control throughout the base. Judging from my viewpoint, the amount of damage appears manageable, although I am unable to see if any internal damages caused by the air raid are present."
Enterprise nodded and quickly hurried away, her usual serious expression appearing.

"For everyone else, you all did well in defending our home. A well-deserved rest is in order. Report any damage or injury suffered to Vestal as fast as possible in order to get everyone back to tip-top shape."
The kansen responded with multitudes of 'Affirmative' and 'Roger that' answers before they scattered to resume base operations as normal.
