Infiltrating the sleeping heart of the Sakura Empire silently is a task promising great hardship if attempted, but is rather doable when you have two elite Royal Maids entirely specialized for such exact missions on your side. Getting subsequently hunted by an entire nation after detonating nearly half of their homebase as a failsafe... not so.
And there the four kansen were, sitting on an abandoned island, hiding inside a large derelict building which seemed like it had not seen any living being set foot in it for years. The green cat, the modern frigate, and the two royal maids.
"How long will we stay here, nya?", said Akashi, slightly shivering. "It's getting cold..."
"Until the rescue fleet arrives. I already sent them a coded message." Sheffield repeated with a slight tinge of annoyance.
"Still... we cannot stay here forever." Edinburgh added, glancing at Akashi with evident nervousness. "They will continue to search for us around this island.""My ECM is still active. We should be relatively safe for the time being." Hessen informed them, idly inspecting the captured katana in her hands. "I've shut down most of my systems with the exception of essentials like radar and communications to conserve fuel. I predict that I can keep this up for at least a few short hours - until then, we should be already rescued... at least I hope so."
"I see. At least we still have that. Any further news on your end?" Sheffield asked.
"Yes... both good and bad. Which do you want to hear first?"
"I do not particularly care, you may decide it yourself.", She answered, her gaze urging her to continue.
"Alright, alright." She stopped fidgeting with the sword and placed it on the ground beside her. "Good news: Heavy fog is completely rolling in. Bundled with an active ECM, it should be almost impossible for anyone to find us, even with recon planes circling above."
"Good. And the bad news?" Her gaze met that of the frigate.
"Bad news... They have begun a blockade of this island – and the Iron Blood joined in."
Sheffield did not appear to show much surprise. "Hmm... problematic. Although that was to be expected. Let me guess - a particular Iron Blood heavy cruiser with a tendency for tasteless comments joined in?"
Hessen quickly checked her radar to answer that question..
"Hmmm... Yes! How was she called – 'Prinz Eugen' you called her?""Indeed." A slight frown appeared on her face, alluding to the fact that she had many run-ins with that heavy cruiser in the past. "You can be sure that wherever the Iron Blood operates, there is a high likelihood that you won't have to search far to encounter her."
"What stops them from just bombing the entire island?" The frigate noted, trying to deduce possible next steps of their enemies. "They do have enough kansen present to achieve this, both via air and sea bombardment."
"I am sure you can already find out yourself." Edinburgh interjected, glancing up to the frigate. "I think it's because they want the cube and most likely you too captured alive."
