15-year-old Angel couldn't believe it-a little vampire girl. he knew that she'd haunt him forever. the large vampire that had scared him off stuck in his mind, too. he took the advice of his big brother, knowing that he should never ever try to tussle with a solo vampire. he followed the others into the pack house. quickly, he ran to the bathroom to take a shower before anyone else got there. he took a long shower, trying to figure himself out. why not a girl his age? why not another werewolf?
Angel had no idea who to speak to about this. he had no idea if he'd ever find someone who would understand the situation that he was in. as the water fell into his platinum hair, he could feel panic rising. what would his father say if he ever told him? what would his brother say? if Angel didn't say anything, both men would just assume that he hadn't found his mate yet, but he had. it was just an inadequate mate. werewolves and vampires just don't get together. it didn't happen. they were natural enemies. not to mention the age gap.
"Angel! come outta there, boy!" Angel's father banged on the door heavily. "the rest of the pack's gotta shower! you know we just got back from a hunt, son!"
"coming Pop!" Angel hurriedly jumped out of the shower and hustled to his room upstairs.
as he was getting dressed, there was a knock at his door. Angel opened it to reveal his older brother. "hey, kid. as soon as we got home you kinda just locked yourself in your room. something bothering you?"
"nope. I'm good." Angel was most definitely not good. he was currently suffering from an emotional dilemma.
he felt a large hand on his head. "we need to cut your hair, kid. it's getting long."
"but... I like my hair."
"but Pop's not gonna let you keep it this long. you know him. he even gripes about your 'pretty' name, as he puts it."
the one thing about his father's personality that severely annoyed him was his overbearing hypermasculinity.
"he knows that Mom named me that. I don't know why he can't just let it go." when he was born, Angel's mother thought that his green eyes and blonde hair looked angelic. it seemed glaringly obvious to her what he should be named. he loved his name.
Angel's brother shrugged. "I don't know, kid. that's just the way he is, I guess. that's the way he's always been. come downstairs; Pop needs to see you."
coming out of his room, he ran into Gaia, a girl wolf in similar age to him. she was one year older. once again, he wondered, why couldn't his mate have been a girl like Gaia? "like Gaia" as in it didn't have to specifically be Gaia. Angel thought she was a bit plain- not that that was a bad thing! he'd just rather someone a bit less generic. he should've been careful because he certainly got what he wished for. the vampire girl was anything but generic.
"Hi, Angel. going downstairs?" Gaia would ask questions with obvious answers because she clearly had a large crush on Angel. she just wanted an excuse to speak to him.
"yeah." Angel was short with his answers. he didn't feel like entertaining her. "my dad wanted me to come down."
there was left an awkward silence as Angel waited for her to say something else. when she didn't, he turned abruptly and headed down the stairs.
"Son, come over here!" the beta called Angel to his side. he was speaking with the alpha. "here he is, Alpha. Son, introduce yourself." even though Saturn and Angel had already met on an earlier date due to the close relationship between Angel's older brother and Saturn, they took the liberties to "introduce" themselves anyway.
"hello, Alpha Saturn. I'm Angel." Saturn gave a small nod of acknowledgement.
the conversation among the adults had been how it always was: boring. Angel sat staring at the wall with his chin in the palm of his hand. his father often told him not to sit like that because it slowed down his blood circulation and made him sleepy. he didn't care. he would rather be asleep than hear them drone on about nothing ... or what he thought was nothing. he eventually heard his name come up in the conversation, so he snapped his eyes up to focus.
"that'd be a good school for him, then," said his father to Saturn. "it could help him toughen up a bit." Angel rolled his eyes. his father continued to say stuff like that even though as a teenager, Angel was as "tough" as he could be. maybe his father thought like that because he didn't like to wrestle like all the other male wolves his age.
"wait, Pop!" Angel's brother had made it into the conversation at some point. "slow down a little bit, yeah? Angel's never been to school before, and he'll be way out of his comfort zone. he might act out."
"acting out" wouldn't even begin to cover it. if his father sent him to a boarding school, he'd raise hell.
"are you sure that's a good idea to just up and send him to an institution?"
Saturn agreed with Angel's brother and glanced at Angel's shocked face. he never meant to convince Angel's father to send him to a wolf boarding school; he was just telling him that his nephew graduated from there with honors. he disliked how impulsive his beta was, and he felt even worse for Angel. "yes, Beta. that school is not for split decisions. many parents think about sending their children there months in advance, possibly a couple years."
the beta, however, was not open to hearing any reason. he was determined to send Angel to a strict boarding school.
Angel would wreak havoc at that school. he'd show his father how "tough" he can really be.
