"This is ours, they can't take it."

"Welcome to the Outer Banks, Cleo," Pope said as all the pogues got off the boat and walked out onto the dock.

Emerson didn't say anything as she looked around the familiar dock. Everything about this place felt like home to her, the air that breezed past them, the smell of the ocean, this was her home. Emerson was scared that it wouldn't feel the same. After everything that's happened to her, everything that's just changed, she's just glad this pace hasn't.

She used to be a kook, now she wasn't. She used to be a part of one of the most prominent families in the area, now her family was in shambles. Nothing made sense anymore. Nothing was the way it used to be. But the air felt the same, at least she had that.

They had dropped Sarah off at the Chateau so she could find John B, leaving the rest of them to fend for themselves in Figure Eight. Emerson still hadn't figured out why JJ seemed to be avoiding her, all she knew was that he hadn't looked at her since they docked at Saint Kitts last night. She also noticed that Pope was keeping an usually close eye on the both of them, almost like he knew something she didn't.

"You're crazy Pope," Cleo told the Heyward boy. "Your parents are not going to appreciate me shacking up."

"Of course they will. Are you kidding?" Pope gave her a reassuring look. "Heyward might put you to work, but we could always use the help."

"I don't know, man. You sure?" She asked as they all continued walking.

"Yeah, look, he might squawk a little bit, but let me talk to him. We'll figure it out."

The six of them continued walking down the streets of Figure Eight, heading in the direction of Kiara's house. Pope turned around, noticing that Emerson was still trailing behind them. JJ was a few steps ahead of him and didn't seem to be paying any attention to his girlfriend.

"Hey," Pope said quietly when Emerson reached his side.

"Hi," She gave him a halfhearted smile.

"What are you thinking?"

Emerson looked around at the nice houses, letting out a soft breath. "Things used to be so simple, you know? Now everything feels different."

"Mhm," Pope sighed as he looked to where JJ moved so he was walking next to Kiara.

It was no secret to any of the pogues that JJ used to have a thing for Kiara. He used to talk about her constantly, just waiting for one opportunity. But Pope noticed that the more time JJ spent with Emerson, the less he talked about Kiara. Pope honestly thought that JJ's feelings for her were gone, now he wasn't sure if that was still true.
