"Don't get kidnapped."

When Rafe looked at Emerson he still saw the kook princess that she used to be. He saw the girl he grew up with. The one who'd prank call him when she was at sleepovers and watch him from across the room whenever they were at family functions. Rafe looked at her and he'd think back to the days when she used to look at him like he hung the moon for her. Rafe wanted her to look at him like that again.
Emerson rolled over in her sleep. She was fighting battles in her dreams that she'd eventually have to deal with when she woke up. She didn't know Rafe was watching her. Rafe thought he was alone, standing in the kitchen looking into the living room where she laid on the couch.
Rafe was so lost in his own thoughts he didn't hear the sound Hayden made when he quietly left the room he'd been in for hours. He opened the door, rolling his eyes when he saw Rafe.
"What are you doing here?"
Hayden's voice startled Rafe but he didn't show it. He just calmly turned around, looking at the young boy in front of him. "Believe it or not but I'm here to help," Rafe told him.
"You're crazy, both of you are," Hayden replied, glancing over at his sister who was still fast asleep.
"She's doing this for you," Rafe reminded him, not liking the tone of voice Hayden used.
"I'm just her excuse," Hayden retorted, truly believing the words he was saying.
"Everything she's done has been for you, don't you see that? You're the one thing Emerson cares about most in this world."
Hayden looked down, knowing deep down that Rafe was right. After everything Emerson's been through and all the things she's lost, she still manages to get up everyday and live. Most days she isn't doing it for her either. Not her, not JJ, not Rafe, all of it is for Hayden.
"You know what Carter did, you know why she has to do this," Rafe added.
"It doesn't have to end like this," Hayden shook his head as a sigh fell from his lips. "He's still our dad. You guys can't do this. If the pogues or JJ knew-"
"There's a reason she came to me," Rafe cut him off, a small smirk appearing on his face. "JJ can't help her. They were never right together, he's a pogue."
"He may be a pogue but he's not a murderer," Hayden reminded him and he watched as Rafe's eyes darkened. "Like father, like son."
"You wanna run off and tell the pogues about my evil plan, go on. Door's right there," Rafe gestured to the unlocked door. Hayden nodded and moved towards the door, ready to leave his sister and Rafe behind. "You'll have to get past Carter's men though. What good will you be if you get caught?"
