BUCKY WOKE VALERIE GENTLY.

"Hey," He murmured, stroking her hair.

She blinked, noticing it was still dark out. She saw Bucky sitting on the bed next to her, fully dressed.

"Tony wants to see you before we leave,"

"What time is it?"

"Early." He chuckled.

She quickly pulled on some clothes, following him into the hallway. He took her hand in the elevator and brought it to his lips gently. She struggled to smile with the nerves that were settling in her stomach.

They arrived in the large room where the team members were loading things into the Quinjet. Tony was standing alone, looking over his notepad. She remembered him cursing at having to use paper after years of using a tablet he crafted.

"Tony," She greeted.

"Alright, Doc. I have some of that tech I promised you," He gestured to the table behind them. "Wear it at all times. It's small stuff, but it gets the job done."

She nodded although had no clue what he was talking about.

"Be careful. Tower's on lockdown anyway, so you can't leave. We won't have our team devices due to obvious reasons, so we won't be able to communicate with you. Just, trust your gut."

Valerie's hands became clammy, getting a multitude of bad feelings.

"You'll be fine. Probably."

"Thanks, Tony."

He clapped her on the shoulder awkwardly before going over to Thor and Steve to discuss things. She turned back to Bucky, noticing someone approach her.

"Clint," She smiled warmly. "When did you get in?"

"About an hour ago. Promised Laura I'd tuck the kids in last night," He chuckled. "God, I have a weird life."

"How's the baby?" She recalled him telling her that his wife was expecting the last time she met him.

"Oh, you know, he doesn't do much. Pretty much shits most of his life,"

She mustered up a laugh, waving to him as he went back to help the team. Bucky was too nervous to say much but didn't want to leave her side until he had to.

"It should be a crime to be up this early," She heard Sam's voice.

"Yeah, I'm going back to bed after you leave."

"I wish we could leave someone with you," He confessed. "But we need all hands on deck."

"I'll be okay." She assured.

"The tower must be eerie when it's empty,"

"Thanks, Sam. That really helps."

"Security will be around. I'm just joking."

"Well, that's good,"

"Wilson, we could use your help." Steve approached the three. "Valerie, how are you?"

"Oh, you know. As good as I can be while my situationship and friends go off to battle a neo-nazi organization with my face in their system."

Steve chuckled. "Well, as long as you're good."
