"SO THEN WHAT DID SHE SAY?"

Valerie asked, sanitizing her hands before picking up her otoscope. She raised it to Sam's ear, taking a peek inside.

He sighed. "I'm still on delivered."

"I do want to say, as your friend, that using Snapchat as a grown man is a bit sad," She spoke nonchalantly as she moved to his other ear.

"Ouch," He replied.

"Did I hurt you?" She pulled her otoscope out quickly.

"Your words did." He feigned sadness.

She chuckled, putting the otoscope down, and removed her gloves. "It's just an ear infection. Antibiotics should clear it up in a few days. In the meantime, no flying. Additional pressure to your ear can cause a rupture."

He groaned.

"Anyway, what's your next move then?" She leaned on the countertop next to the table Sam was sitting on.

"I dunno, man. I mean, I put the ball in her court. I asked her if she was free this weekend." He replied. "That was two days ago."

Valerie and Sam had become closer when she saw him crashing and burning with the part-time receptionist in the lobby. She had been heading in from getting coffee across the street when she spotted him at the desk. Body language cues told her all she needed to know before entering the elevator with him.

That looked like it went well, she had joked. Sam looked at her incredulously, making her question if her joke landed or if she had overstepped. He then burst into laughter, and she knew she was good.

"Give her time. Maybe she's busy," Valerie reasoned. "Or maybe, she hasn't opened Snapchat since she was twenty."

He rolled his eyes, hopping off the table. "Ha, ha."

"Keep me posted on your ear. And remember, no flying!" She called.

He waved her off as he walked away. She was unsure if he would even follow her orders, most of the team didn't. The number of times she told Captain America to be on bed rest was infinite. He'd maybe rested twice.

Speaking of, the soldier walked into her office just as she was tidying up.

"Steve!" She spoke, startled. "What can I do for ya?"

"I was hoping to just talk a minute if that's alright."

She smiled. "Of course. Take a seat,"

She leaned against the counter once more as he awkwardly hopped up onto the metal table. She was surprised it could even hold him and his unnatural build. When she first met Steve, she could admit she had a tiny crush. He was the first to really welcome her, and let's be honest, he's not terrible to look at.

The small flame quickly died down as she began to work with him professionally. She regarded him as a close friend, and nothing more. It was extremely unprofessional to get involved with patients, after all.

"How are you feeling today?" She began.

"A little nervous," He admitted. "Bucky is supposed to arrive today."

Her stomach turned a little. It had been three days since the meeting and with time came nerves. She was only left to wonder what her neighbor would be like and all she had to go off were her colleagues' words.
