More paramedics ran past us into the living room. Tobin turned his face into my chest. "I hate to do this to you but I'm suspending you until you have been assessed."

I nodded but the chief's words were not important to me. "Understood sir. I need a favour."

"Anything."

I rubbed Tobin's back. "I need to keep hold of Tobin. Tia... gave him to me, for want of a better way of putting it. If we separate him from Tia it will be bad for him."

He watched Tobin cling to me and cry into my chest. "I will do my best Mac."

At that moment the gurney carrying Tia was being rolled through the kitchen. Roland knelt on top of the gurney with his hand inside her chest. The sight was hart ranching The chief looked over his shoulder and turned to follow them out.

I carried Tobin out of the house and round to the car that waited with its lights already on. The chief opened the back of the car and I put Tobin in the seat as he yelled for someone to look after Burt. Tobin didn't want to let go of me, he did when I clicked the seatbelt in place. I closed the door and was barely in myself before the wheels were rolling on old Betty. The chief followed the ambulance away from the house with the siren screaming and the lights making the forest bright.

Reaching for the dashboard I stroked it like Tia did for Rose. She's keeping up well with the ambulance for being such an old rust bucket.

We arrived before I could register where I was and I patted her dashboard. "You did well Betty."

I got out and Tobin was already opening his door. I picked him up and the chief closed the doors. "You go with her. I'll find you."

He got back in Betty and she pulled away. I walked through the doors Tia had disappeared into, and stood lost as people seemed to be everywhere. Everyone was moving quickly and talking over each other. I'd never felt so lost in all my life.

"Do you need help? Are you bleeding?" I jumped at the voice.

I looked around to see a plump nurse with a friendly face standing there. "Tia... a lady was just brought in... she's been stabbed... and shot."

The nurse smiled and started walking. "Come on then this way. Do you have her history and full name?" I followed the woman still feeling overwhelmed by everything.

"I know her name and some history. Are you leading me to her?"

"Very soon yes, but first we must have this information from you. We can't help if we don't know everything." She led me to a desk and sat down. "Right let's start with her name."

I gave all the information I had to the nurse and she tapped away on the computer. Then she stood. "Right follow me and stay out of the way."

I hefted Tobin and followed the woman. "When you've seen her then you can be looked over."
