THE NIGHT before the big test, you were getting ready for bed, that was until Stein invited you to help him out with some paperwork, you agreed since you would have trouble sleeping that night anyway. The noises of typing filled out the stitched-up room, you were too focused on the bright screen in front of you.
Stein making coffee in the kitchen. It was oddly quiet. Then, there was a sound. Gripping onto your scarf weapon as you had it with you at all times for safety. It had to be an intruder or maybe the witch that the school was having problems with. You felt someone's soul, one that didn't seem like a threat.
Hearing a loud crash, you rushed down to Stein's office and ready to fight. Stopping to compose yourself, you saw the assassin student was knocked out with beat-up bruises. The test corrections all over the floor, your mind connected the dots.
"You gotta be kidding me."
After carrying Black Star in the extra rooms, it was too late to bring him back to his dorm room. Tsubaki might've been asleep, you didn't want to disturb the girl. Tucking him in, you turned back around to see your friend leaning against the doorframe with his arms crossed.
"You do know he'll have to take punishment, right?"
"I know that, I'll deal with it." Stein snorted, highly amused by your response. He could tell you were getting attached to your students. "I think you may gone a little too soft, [Y/n]." He pointed out. You ignored his teasing, going straight back to work. Deep down, he was right, even if you tried to deny it. Teaching at the academy, it was finally growing on you.
The next day was the test, Sid took over, noticing how exhausted you looked. Luckily for you, he was nice enough to teach for today. Resting in your yellow sleeping bag, no student in the room was shocked compared to the beginning of the year.
"I'll be projecting your exam today, due to...some issues," Sid grumbled. "-and one more thing before we get started." Walking off to the side, there was Black Star. He was hung by his shirt on the chalkboard, a bloody nose and bruises all over his face.
"Y-Ya-hoo..." The blue-haired boy groaned. Tsubaki was shocked, wondering what could've happened to cause her meister to be badly injured. "A certain idiot decided to sneak into Professor Stein's laboratory and steal the exam."
"Y-Ya-hoo..." Black Star let out again weakly.
"For [Y/n]'s hard work, don't be like this guy." With that short notice, the zombie explained the rest of the rules with the testing procedures. Just as they began writing, you drifted off, snoring into dreamland. While the test was going on, it was simply chaos.
Soul gets caught cheating from having a bunch of written answers under his clothes. Kid was a whole different story, struggling to write down his own name as it wasn't "perfect." Soul was lucky you were in a deprived mood or otherwise he'd been in trouble, training til his body hit the ground.
Sooner or later, the test results came back quickly with a list of names of each student. Maka gained first in the rankings just like you said she would. The girl's father wanted to celebrate and drink out tonight, you were going to say no but decided to be there for him. It came as a shock when the synth asked the cat, Blair, of all people for a favor to deliver a gift for his daughter. You saved the day, persuading Spirit to wait and do it tomorrow.
Surprisingly, Spirit wasn't drunk whenever the two of you finished up. It was a nice night for once.
"Have you been getting enough sleep lately?" The redhead asked out of the blue. It caught you off guard and you answered honestly. "Not really, I've been too busy and staying up later than usual." You could tell by his face that he didn't like your answer.
Stopping in his tracks, you did too.
"How about...you get more rest and I promise not to drink too much." You quirked an eyebrow at his words. Wanted to humor him a little, you chuckled. "I don't usually make promises but just this one time." Shrugging at his proposal, Spirit went further as to hold out his pinky.
"What are you, five?"
"Oh c'mon, I can't miss this opportunity, just this once!"
"No."
