"go as far as they can take it. even if they don't quite make it..."
ONCE THE TEENS made their way back to Doc's house, they found him sitting in front of the tv like a little boy. "Oh my god, they found me, I don't know how but they found me. Run for it, kids!" Marty looks to Emma who watched Doc with sorrow. Marty frowned, watching Doc replay the moment. "My god, they found me. I don't know how but they found me. Run for it, kids!"
"I gotta tell him." Emma murmured. Marty nodded, leaning on the doorframe. "Doc?" Emma asked in a concerned manner.
"Emma, Marty. I didn't hear you come in." Doc began, clutching the video camera. He saw the guilty look placed on both of their faces. Doc caught on, placing the camera on top of the tv. "Fascinating device, this video unit." I can't do this...Emma thought. She looked back to Marty just to confirm one more time. He crossed his arms, giving her an answer with his body language.
"Listen, Doc, you know there's something we haven't told you about the night we made that tape."
"Please, Emma, don't tell me, no man should know too much about their own destiny."
"You don't understand." Marty intervened, stepping out of his place.
"I do understand. If I know too much about my own future I could endanger my own existence, just as you two have endangered yours." Marty and Emma turned irritable towards Doc who chose to ignore his fate that could now be set in stone. Emma and Marty exchanged looks and silently decided not to argue.
"You're...you're right."
"Let me show you my plan for sending you two home." Doc begins, guiding the two towards the tarp-covered contraption. He lifts it, showing a model of the Hill Valley Courthouse Square. For the record, he had done a very fine job. "Please excuse the crudity of this model, I didn't have time to build it to scale or to paint it."
"Its good." Marty assures, patting Doc on the back.
"Oh, thank you, thank you." Doc replied, motioning himself to the cable that was fashioned to run down the clock "Okay now, we run some industrial strength electrical cable from the top of the clocktower down to spreading it over the street between two lamp posts." Doc explained leaving out nothing. "Meanwhile, we outfitted the vehicle with this big pole and hook which runs directly into the flux-capacitor." He stepped away from the model, calculating the plan in his head. "At the calculated moment, you start off from down the street driving toward the cable execrating to eighty-eight miles per hour. According to the flyer, at 10:04 pm, this Saturday night, lightning will strike the clocktower sending one point twenty-one gigawatts into the flux-capacitor, sending you two back to 1985." Doc finally finished. He handed Emma a miniature car, rushing over to the other end of the model. "Alright now, watch this. You wind up the car and release it, I'll simulate the lightening."
"You extol me with a lot of confidence, Doc." Emma commented with a small chuckle.
"Ready, set, release." The girl let go of the car which sped through the model square. The small car matched with Doc's wiring caused sparks to fly. The small car was now on fire as it raced towards an old towel. Inevitably, the cloth caught on fire too. Doc looked up to a worried looking Marty. This truly was all of him, and he felt guilty for every minute of it. The flames had stopped. He noticed how worried the boy looked. "Don't worry, I'll take care of the lightning, you take care of your pop. By the way, what happened today, did he ask her out?"
"Uh, I think so." A knock started at the garage door. The teens exchanged a glance while Doc sprung to action.
"It's your mom, she's tracked you down. Quick, let's cover the time machine." While helping Doc cover the DeLorean, Marty noticed the saddened, worried look upon his best friend's face. He watched as she crossed her arms, taking a deep breath in. Doc opened the door to reveal the one and only Lorraine Baines. She slides through the doorway in an awkward manner.
"Hi, Cal—Marty." She sighs, admiring the boy. She then peeks over Marty's shoulder to see Emma. The two wave shyly to each other. The atmosphere in the room became awkward very quickly. Emma and Doc joined each other's side, staring down at the floor shyly.
"Uh, Mom—Lorraine. How did you know I was here?" Marty asked, scratching the back of his neck.
"I followed you." She confessed. Emma and Doc looked up at each other, both giving the same "what the hell?" type of glance.
"Oh, uh, this is my Doc, Uncle, Brown." Marty says, stumbling over his words and trying to reach him for help. What was Doc supposed to do? Lorraine clutched her school books and continued following Marty.
"Marty, this may seem a little forward..." Emma and Doc leave Marty, quickly scattering to the other side of the DeLorean. "but I was wondering if you would ask me to the Enchantment Under The Sea Dance on Saturday." Marty looked forEmma and Doc's help. He couldn't find them as they hid on the other side of the DeLorean, whispering to each other.
"Uh, you mean nobody's asked you?" Marty asked, shuffling around in his place.
"No, not yet."
"What about George?" Marty asked trying to steer her attention elsewhere.
"George McFly? Oh, he's kinda cute and all, but..." Lorraine said, teasingly strutting closer to her son. "well, I think a man should be strong, so he could stand up for himself, and protect the woman he loves. Don't you?" Marty coughed, nodding his head in agreement. "Oh. Emma?" The girl quickly stood up, revealing herself. "I...uh. I wanted to give you something for the dance." The Eaves walked to Emma and handed the girl a big box. Emma smiled in appreciation. She obviously wasn't going to go to the dance but it still made her heart melt with the kind gesture nonetheless.
"Oh, Lorraine, you didn't have to."
"Just consider it a welcome to Hill Valley gift." Lorraine smiled.
"Well, thank you."
"Anytime. I'll be at the clothing shop if you need me." With that, Lorraine was gone. Marty peeked behind Emma, hovering over her shoulder.
"So?" Marty began. "What's in the box?" Emma smiled, opening the box to reveal a pink dress. The two slowly started to smile; Marty rested his head on her shoulder, looking up at the laughing girl. Emma looked to at Marty, their lips now just meet inches apart. Their thoughts fleeted quickly. They just wanted to get over it. Please, McFly, do it first. Emma thought. Emma Eaves please, do it so I don't have to. The two hesitated.
"I'd better go...try this on." Emma stammered, walking away from Marty. He coughed, shoving his hands in his pockets.
"Uh, yeah, yeah." Once Emma left leaving Marty completely embarrassed, Doc popped up from his spot behind the DeLorean. Marty noticed Doc's worried expression. The situation did become pretty dire since the last time he's checked. "Look, Doc, I can fix this. I'll settle this with my dad tomorrow." Doc nodded.
"I'm hoping it'll be sooner than later, Marty." Doc sighed, uncovering the DeLorean. Marty sighed back at him, wandering to the living room as Doc continued adjusting some things to the car._____
Marty waited for Emma who was getting dressed in the bathroom. Jesus, how long does it take to put on a dress? He thought to himself, shuffling in his seat. The boy heard the bathroom door creek open. He shuffled in his chair, sitting up straight. "Oh, wow." Marty muttered to himself. There stood Emma Rose Eaves in a beautiful pink dress. The thin straps wrapped around to the back of her neck and tied into a little bow. The top half of the dress hugged Emma's waist almost perfectly and the rest of the dress flew out to the sides. Emma smiled, spinning in her dress for as long as she could. Marty stood up, smiling along with her and catching her when she became too dizzy.
She wrapped her arm around Marty, the only thing she could see clearly in her dizzy, crazy surroundings. She suddenly remembered everything that went on not too long ago. She wanted to tell him what happened at the cafe with George. She needed to tell him everything. Unfortunately, feelings got the best of her, this moment is too perfect. It can wait.
