Black Butler: The New Hire

Part 4: Alone

The two head back up the work town to the doctors office and walk back inside. They swung the door open and inside stood the doctor at his desk. The man, about to head out, looked at the two men in his doorway before they asked where they could sleep for the night. The doctor tossed them the key ring for the place off the wall. He said they could stay in the room upstairs before leaving out the door they came in.

The two walked upstairs after locking the door. To find the upstairs room in the only hallway of the place. They walked in to find a cozy room, with a covered tub for a shower, a large two person bed, and a closet. Maguire took off his coat and headed to the tub or bathe. He hung his coat on the rack and unclipped his dual pistol chest holsters for his 1899 pistols.

Lucas looked at the mirror on the wall as Maguire pulled the wooden room divider closed. He turned on the bath and sank into it slowly as Lucas sat outside waiting for his turn. The clock ticked and eventually Maguire got out and dried off. He put his clothes back on as Lucas went to go bathe now, but Maguire headed for the door.

"I'm gonna go look for some food, I'll be back in a bit"

He said, Lucas nodded before he left the room. Lucas then undressed and hung his clothes before stepping into the slightly still warm bath. He turned the shower nozzle after closing the divider and let the water pour down on him. He let it run through his blonde hair as he knitted out all the damage done that night. He slowly and carefully washes his wounds as the water feels almost boiling hot. He raised his face up to the water and let it peel the grime off his face slowly while he closed his eyes. He sat in the shower for a bit as he scrubbed his legs and groin clean.

Once he was done, he turned the shower off and stepped out. He dragged the towel along his hair and body before putting his clothes back on. He sat on the bed for a bit and waited until Maguire came back.

He opened the door and walked through with some bread and apples. The two ate in silence before going to bed. They slept peacefully without problem, before awaking in the morning. They walked outside and left the keys in their original spot for the doctor. The morning was bright and hopeful as the two walked back towards the docks, to find the ship loading for the day. The sailors were getting checked as they hauled aboard. Lucas and Maguire approached the man by the loading ramp, but before they reached him, they were stopped by a shouting voice.

"Hey! It's them fellers from the ranch!" Someone yelled as they turned to see men on horses. Two of them started to get down off them while another readied a rifle atop his. Everyone at the docks was stiff as Lucas prepared to dodge left behind some crates and then up the loading ramp to the ship. They all stared each other down, the sailors on the dock were ready, and without even a flinch, the men drew their pistols.

BANG BANG BANG

Lucas slipped his revolver out before ducking behind some boxes. Maguire drew his duel pistols at the same time and fired back in retaliation.

BANG BANG

But because he stood his ground, Maguire was ripped into by the initial shots. The gunshots startled the horse and the man with the rifle was bucked before they darted. He landed on his head and seemed dead or unconscious. Lucas peared up and aimed at the second man still standing.

BAM

He shot him in the chest and watched him fall to the ground. He then darted his eyes to Maguire to see he was already dead. The blood seeped out of his mouth, as Lucas took his trenchcoat and pistols. He darted up the boarding ramp in panic with the other sailors, slipping his guns aboard. He took them to a private place and slipped on the chest holster Maguire wore. He slipped the pistols in and hid them under the coat along with his revolver, until he could store them elsewhere.

The ship left port not too long after that, and now, Lucas was alone, on his way to another continent and country. He stood at the near left end of the ship and watched as the day turned to night and they sailed away from land.
