Kit hated this. He really did. Mostly because he knew Persephone and the others were right. He and Persephone had mastered the art of talking in circles around each other during their tumultuous, three-week-long relationship, and all of their conversations ended with them lying to each other and pretending to meet in the middle even though they were on the opposite sides, especially near the end. He knew he started it by pretending to be okay with them dating both him and Vic, but he'd felt he'd truly grown to be alright with it. He hadn't; he'd simply accepted it as a stipulation for dating, and that set him off on the idea that being with them meant only showing emotions that were allowable and matched their own. And now here they were, three days into not being together anymore, and he still didn't know what to say.
Stefan had all but locked them into the room together. Their only reprieve was an older television that Daniella had wheeled in with a bunch of strange, boxy things that made Persephone light up. He loved seeing that smile on their face but hated that he couldn't go up and kiss it anymore. He was still on bed rest, while they'd been given a bit more freedom, Stefan saying it was because they were feeling better and he'd aggravated his wound to the point it was going to take more time. The real issue was they were out of blood, even if they were all ignoring that fact. Kit's throat was dry and felt like it was burning, but he was still reluctant to feed on Persephone, even though Stefan pointed out they needed to let their blood anyway to help with the iron overload. They were watching a movie called Rocky Horror Picture Show, and Kit was bursting at the seams with questions he wasn't sure he was allowed to ask them. Finally, when a gold man in tiny shorts appeared, he couldn't hold himself back.
"What on Earth is going on in this movie?" He blurted out, watching the strange man gyrate his hips and approach the woman. "I have been quite lost from the beginning, but what is a transvestite, and why is it Transylvanian? Or is the doctor Transylvania and a transvestite separately? Is Transylvania not what I remember it to be?" He looked over at Persephone, feeling baffled.
"It's a movie about the doctor, and explaining what's going on without spoiling the ending is hard. Right now, he's unveiling the 'creature' he built in his lab, the man in the gold shorts, and being trans and Transylvanian are not mutually exclusive. He just happens to be both. I have no idea what Transylvania is like outside of vampire movies, to be honest, but we can look that up once we're allowed to have our phones again. Also, we don't use the words 'transvestite' or 'transsexual' anymore, you might hear some older queer people identify as such, but you should just say trans," Kit just nodded, taking the information in.
"Why do so many vampires originate from Transylvania in your modern-day media?" It had been confusing him endlessly.
"Because Dracula was Transylvanian," they responded with a shrug. Kit scoffed. "Are you still mad about that movie?" They asked with a laugh.
"Second to Twilight, that was a highly offensive piece of media! I cannot, in fact, turn my entire body into a swarm of bats, nor can I summon wolves with my mind, nor can I turn into whatever it was that the vampires transformed into! Vlad Tepes was an actual person in history and didn't even live in Transylvania! He was a Wallachian prince! No, I do not care that it is now Transylvania. Not to mention the historical inaccuracies!" He stopped, cringing a bit at the twinge in his chest as he got too excited. Persephone watched him with a soft, fond smile, shaking their head.
"When I showed you Van Helsing, I did not think the takeaway was going to be how offensive it was to vampires," they said with a small laugh from where they were eating popcorn on their bed. He was still adjusting to not being able to reach out to them, having grown accustomed to watching movies and TV while cuddling. Friends could cuddle, they had explained, but friends who are also exes and trying to adjust to that fact should not cuddle. Stefan came in, carrying a tray of soup and some juice for Persephone.
