Chaos was breaking loose in the LeafSilk hall.
After getting Peril to the makeshift field hospital Azalea and a few other dragons had set up, Sunny had volunteered to help them out and was pulling aside anyone she could find to check they were okay.
Next to her, Nightstar was being checked out by a dark coloured LeafWing who had blueish tinges at the edges of their leaves. He hadn't sustained much damage - just ash in the airways and a general sense of shock. Deathbringer and Starlight were crouched around him, Glory had reluctantly left for a Queen meeting up front.
"Are you okay? Do you feel pain anywhere?" Sunny was tentatively asking a trembling Dragonet, one that she recognised from the daycare. The SeaWing - Icefish - gently nodded. "That's good." Sunny breathed. "I was worried. Let me see your side, now."
With a bit of encouragement, Icefish turned her moon pale body, allowing the older hybrid to look at the debris along her scales.
"No wounds." Sunny said with relief after a while. She leant back to where Azalea was working and gently tapped her shoulder. "Icefish is good." She murmured quickly. Azalea flashed her a quick smile before her patterned wings blocked Sunny out again, unintentionally, as she exasperatedly gave Clay instructions.
"Excuse me, miss." Came a small voice from a yellowish SkyWing. Sunny looked up to see Flicker, who she'd met the day before, limping and clutching her leg. She'd barely walked one more step before she collapsed on the healing mat that was spread out.
Sunny gave a little shriek of shock. At once, a jungle green LeafWing with deep purple highlights stepped deftly inbetween the two, and offered his claw to help Sunny up. "Vine." He introduced. "I can take it from here."
"Thanks." She muttered in part-relief, part-guilt, getting to her feet and pacing around to where she knew the rest of the dragons were. All of my friends are busy. She thought concernedly. Clay with Peril. Glory's Queen. Starflight... Is probably in the library researching tectonic movement. She thought with a half hearted snort. Tsunami...
Up ahead, Tsunami was fussing over Anemone and Auklet, in the absence of her mother. Sunny would never say it to her face, of course, but Tsunami and Coral were more alike than they cared to acknowledge.
A loud boast to her right, however, caught her attention.
"Yes but YOU'RE not a Dragonet of Destiny, are you? Are you? I AM, you watch, I AM, I'll find the cause of this Earthquake single-handedly and THEN who will be laughing!"
Squid was talking very loudly to a group of ensnared Dragonets, pretty much the only dragons that would listen to him. His voice had taken on a strange, crazy tone, like that of someone who was going insane. It sounded like it was all-or-nothing. Like he had nothing to lose anymore.
If anything, the death of his father had made him even more infuriatingly entitled.
"Those supposed DESTINY DRAGONETS did NOTHING, absolutely NOTHING, we spares had worse childhoods! AWFUL Childhoods! And they called us spares!"
Sunny felt her teeth gritting a little, but she forced herself to stay put. Why are you letting him get to you? He's not worth it. Just ignore him. He's going through a lot right now.
"Those Dragonets of Destiny you worship, they're nothing but a bunch of lazy, attention seeking, USURPERS!"
STAY WHERE YOU ARE, Sunny, don't react to him, don't let him in!
"I hate this place! They're trying to kill us! I want to go home, and it's all those blasted Dragonets' fault! I WISH THEY'D GO DIE!" He yelled, in the heat of the moment, not caring what he was saying.
