Hopeless, Loveless

Jay gave a look to the almost bird like design of the wings he had drawn. He thought about what cloth would be best to get, since it was about the only thing he couldn't get for free from the junkyard. But when he used some old scraps as a beta design of sorts, the shape of the wing really wasn't doing the build justice.

Jay then changed the design to be more bat like, and this time he was more confident in his success. Then Jay finally bought a cloth, same color but with a couple of different materials in case on ripped too easily or one was too heavy. But the first part was done, none the less. But even when the cloth was cut to be roughly the right shape, it was still just a pair of bat wings even a kid could make.

And so Jay perfected his design. He ran around outside searching for parts for countless of hours, fixing the parts to each other, and making sure mechanisms worked before testing them out. On the first try, he jumped off the top of his and his parents' trailer... and crashed down in an instant. A few changes to the design, new parts and replacing damaged ones, and then from atop a pile of junk. This time Jay didn't fall straight down... he tilted to the left before crashing into the junk pile he originally jumped from. And so he went back to searching. Then testing, and the searching again. Repeat, repeat, repeat...

Every try Jay jumped from somewhere place that was a little higher than the last. Before ultimately ending atop a big office building in Ninjago City. On (y/n)'s camera had been pictures of this place. The park and the blue sky and the people were exactly as they were on the small screen, and Jay almost teared up from sadness. But he took the sadness as a way to boost his confidence, and so he put on the wings, yet again.

"I can do this. Sixth time is the charm." Jay told himself, before taking a step back, and jumping. And surprisingly he was still in the air.

"I can fly! Aha!" Jay laughed as he did a few flips in the air, gracefully gliding over busy streets until...

"Aaagh!" ...he crased into a billboard, and fell onto the roof of the building it was set on. Jay grunted in dissatisfaction before removing the damaged wings from his back.

"Ugh, that's it! I've had it! You piece of useless, broken junk!" Jay cursed at the wings for a while, before letting out a long sigh.

"It's impossible." He quietly mumbled before another voice spoke up.

"Is it now? Then why keep trying if you'll never achieve your goal?" The calm voice of an old man, sitting on the roof and drinking freshly boiled tea, spooked Jay, who immediately got defensive.

"No of your business... Who even are you?" Jay wasn't one to act sassy, so he quickly fixed his tone to be more respectful.

"A dreamer, like you. I too reach out to the impossible, and wish that maybe my dreams will come true." Jay kept quiet as the old man gazed at the sky.

"Yet we have differences. Since the one things I lack, is the determination to actually make that wish come true." Jay wasn't on edge anymore, and instead stared at the man curiously as he poured out two cups of tea.

"Care to join?" The old man lastly said, inviting Jay for a cup of tea. Jay knew he should refuse, stranger danger and all that. But something about the man just signaled Jay, that perhaps it was worth chatting, just for a bit.

"Cut them down to size!" Garmadon laughed as Misako gripped the helmet tightly.

"If we do not return the helmet before the clock strikes zero, we won't be able to prevent the final battle." She spoke as Jay drew his sword back with an overconfident nod.
