Song for This Chapter: "Best Days by Alessia Cara" & "Sardine Song by Lav"

Leanna squeezed herself into the small almost clown-like car and huffed with relief at the blast of cool air.

The blaring music was turned down to a tolerable volume, "Hey bestieee! So, we're doing Greek food, right?"

Leanna just nodded as she went to rearrange her bag to a more comfortable spot than sitting awkwardly on her lap.

"How are you doing? How was work?" Bianca's perfectly lined amber eyes scanned Leanna's face quickly before returning her attention to the road.

A small lift of Leanna's shoulders was all she wanted to leave it to, but she answered, "Fine and fine, nothing happened really. What about you?"

Bianca's shoulders mimicked Leanna's, "Same old, same old. Work sucks and I have a long line of unavailable men at my disposal. Fun, right?" Bianca's lips worked their way into a somber smile before her eyes randomly lit up, her brows shooting up, "Speaking of! You remember me talking about how Brant and I were getting closer and how I really love how comfortable I am with him?" Leanna nodded and accompanied it with a soft reply as her pointer finger drew lines up and down the side of her calloused thumbs.

"Well, I think he's trying to get the nerve to ask me out, but I've got that thing with Jeremiah right now, as hopeless as that situation is." Bianca's eyes rolled at the end of her sentence.

"What makes you think he wants to ask you out? I thought you said you were getting friend vibes from him?" Leanna's brows pinched together in confusion.

"Yeah, I'm getting friend vibes but apparently, he isn't. He's been flaunting off his new physique to everyone because he thinks he's some kind of professional powerlifter and I was just annoyed by the bro-ness of it all. He got a few empty-headed giggles from some girls, and he thought that I was jealous. He pulled me aside and claimed that he wasn't all muscle, he had class and brains too. Said that he was waiting to show that side of himself to the right girl." Bianca stuck out her tongue as she faked a gag.

Leanna just stared at her friend as she calculated how to proceed with this conversation. Leanna knew that her friend in fact was interested in Brant, but because of how immature he was, she thought she would be judged. Leanna also knew that Bianca's current 'situation' with Jeremiah was a figment of Bianca's imagination. Jeremiah was a pleasant time in bed at the most, and he rarely ever gave Bianca the time and attention she deserved. Bianca was a trophy to him, a 'look at the pretty, voluptuous, outgoing suburban girl I got. That means I'm worth something too, right?'. Jeremiah was scum, a low life that lived off of his grandparents while he sold drugs out of their house and rode around in their car with no job and nowhere of importance to be. He had the tragic parents to go with the matching childhood and current state. This was no excuse to Leanna considering her own upbringing and the person she had become. Not perfect, but also, she wasn't someone putting out more harm than good into the world.

Bianca wasn't a girlfriend to him. Probably just a mindless, beautiful piece of meat. Sometimes it seemed as though he thought he owned Bianca which made Leanna's blood boil. Jeremiah never disrespected Bianca in front of Leanna which had led to no chances for a confrontation.

Having no filter with or tolerance for rude or abusive people was something that Leanna always had hardwired. It made her stomach bubble with an acidic fury but also twist and drop with that initial push. That poke, that shove against someone's way of thinking, acting toward, or speaking to someone.

Bianca had sworn that she and Jeremiah had come to an agreement of having an open relationship, but Leanna knew that they both used one another as a crutch of some sort. They were horrible to, and for each other, but refused to let go.
