AN: CW - sexy things at the end of this chapter.
"I can't believe you seriously suggested Ireland was too hard for me to get to, to see ya," said Noel, laughing. They were both still sitting on the couch in the suite, talking about everything that happened over the last few weeks since they'd last seen each other.
"Don't remind me please," Amy said, also laughing but shaking her head. "We've both been such bloody idiots, jumping to conclusions – I am not sure it's funny."
"You might have jumped to a few more than me," Noel teased. She tried to elbow him, but he was too quick for her. He tickled her sides while she screamed for mercy, secretly loving every moment.
It had been like this all evening – talking, cuddling, laughing and just generally enjoying being in each other's company again. The pot of tea was long forgotten, and instead had been replaced with a bottle of wine. Every now and then they'd sneak a tender, gentle kiss and nothing more, like they were teenagers testing the waters for the first time.
Amy was so happy she felt like she was vibrating. Noel wanted to be with her. He felt all the same things she did. He told her she was special. She made sure to drink in everything about him while they sat there – the way his eyes scrunched up when he laughed, his crooked smile, the way his chest hair always poked over the top of his shirts. The warmth roughness of his hands as they held hers or stroked her cheek. His woody, manly smell. The way he laughed, said her name and looked at her. She loved everything about him.
Now he was here, in front of her, Amy finally let herself admit it – she was in love with Noel. She honestly didn't think she'd be able to love again after Jack – the thought of maybe going through it all again, the sheer intensity of that emotion, the brilliant highs and terrible lows – for the longest time had seemed like way too much to bear. But she knew, she knew loved him. She had for a while and it didn't frighten her or worry her anymore.
She'd tell him – she wasn't going to make the same mistakes that got them into the mess they'd been in – but not tonight. He'd only just come back to her and she didn't want him to feel like he was pressured to say it. Just having him here, knowing he wanted to be with her was enough for now.
She sighed and looked at the time. "I have to go," she said reluctantly.
Noel's heart dropped. He'd been hoping Amy would have been able to stay the night, so they could spend more time together before their schedules forced them apart again.
"Stay," he said, frowning. "It's too soon to leave." She raised her eyebrows at him.
"I can't just drop all my plans now I've got a boyfriend. I'm still an independent woman," she half-joked, but he knew she was serious. She wasn't going to move whatever she had on just because of their grand reunion.
"Fair enough – I'll join you then," he said casually. She looked surprised.
"I'm seeing a musical tonight. You won't like it," she said. Amy had booked tickets last night in an attempt to cheer herself up. Musicals always made her feel happy. She'd incorrectly assumed she'd need it after meeting with Noel.
"I can think of worse things than sitting next to you in dark room," Noel said cheekily. She flushed.
'We'll be photographed. The paps will all be out looking for us after the article."
"Don't care."
Amy looked at Noel for a moment, before breaking into a huge smile that was like an arrow straight to his heart.
"Really? Ok I will call the box office then to see if I can get a seat next to me."
As the night wore on, Noel couldn't believe his luck. He'd done it, he'd gotten her back. Pride – and a little bit of arrogance – filled his chest, but he was also humbled. Being around Amy again was like stepping into warm sunlight after a period in the cold. She was beautiful, vivacious, kind and open-hearted, and she chose to share all that with him. He was one lucky bastard.
