I | The Dying Swan

Bloody red petals fell off one by one from the rose which grew inside his heart --- painstakingly --- until all that was left were its withering thorny stem and crumpling leaves.

"Pardon me, My King," whispered an aggravated Jin. He was sitting beside the King on the right side of his throne, eyes wide as he glanced at Taehyung in utter disbelief, while his breath had been knocked off of him with a strong blow in the gut. "I do not think I have heard you right."

His mate by immortal bond sipped a little of the fresh blood served to him in his golden chalice --- the King of all vampires who were living in his domain --- was sitting in his throne with indignation. Without sparing him a glance, he repeated his words from earlier as if they were not thorns creeping around his heart. "As I have said to you, my love, I shall mate your brother Hoseok on the fortnight."

"Fortnight," he dinned under his breath

"Fortnight," he dinned under his breath. It was not Taehyung's first or second time to claim another vampire to be his mate. Truth be told, he had nine other mates aside from Jin. It never sat well with him or would it ever, but being his immortally bonded mate, Jin had learnt to speak only when he was asked to since from the start. But this time --- this time, he could not mask the disappointment he had to go through every time the King informed him about his want to mate another vampire, increasing his harem who could successfully birth him an heir. Vampires were immortal creatures who rarely conceived, if not at all, and even rarer to birth an infant pureblood of royal blood --- just like Taehyung. Jin's visions seemed to be swimming, addled as he murmured in hidden displeasure. He looked away from the King again and stared blankly into the vast throne room. "You want to mate-- my only brother-- during the Blood Moon?"

"Yes, my love," he answered monotonously.

How could he string fornication and adulation of love in those three words?

"My King, if I may ask," Jin paused a bit, still looking far away as he tried to swallow the lump in his throat --- choking him and making him feel like his head was light as a feather. "But why my brother?"

He felt Taehyung's eyes on him, so he reluctantly turned his head to the side and held his mate's penetrating gaze.

"He fascinates me these days," he responded with a nonchalant shrug of his shoulder. "I also find it very interesting to have two brothers as my mates. The other has the gift to heal, while the other one can manipulate the weather. Maybe your brother can even bore us an heir. He's a little less younger than you. Why? Are you questioning my decisions now, love?"

The people in the castle had been right all these years.

Jin was immortally bonded to a solipsistic Vampire King.

"I would never dare, My King," Jin denied as he shook his head curtly followed by a gracious smile ghosting on his lips. "I will arrange everything for the ritual if you wish me to. After all, you are going to mate my brother Hoseok."
