"What did you just say?" Agatha asked Varinia."Cadoc is furious. Zagar returned from his mission without finishing it, apparently your friends left him a message and he went looking for them. Cadoc tried to stop him but everyone knows that when Zagar is determined to do something no one can talk him out of it," the demon explained, eating a piece of toast. "And those who saw him say he was in too much of a hurry to leave."
Agatha smiled, "What did the message say?"
"I have no idea, he didn't say anything about that. I hope your friends have an idea what they're doing because angry Zagar is not someone you want to cross paths with."
They knew what they were doing, the young woman trusted Lorcan's decisions. Despite the fact that a part of her still feared what could happen to them, she had decided to concentrate on the best scenarios. She could no longer do anything for them from where she was, so worrying only brought her suffering.
"I'm sure that they have a plan, I trust them."
Varinia got up from the bed and brushed the crumbs off her clothes. "If you think so, then I'm on your side. Honestly, it's better that Zagar doesn't come back, once Cadoc returns from covering the mission he abandoned, he'll find a way to get back the favor to Zagar and that always ends with the mansion being destroyed. or with other injured demons foreign to their fight."
"So Cadoc isn't here either?"
"That's what I just said, silly. Actually none of the leaders are in the mansion right now. Cadoc was supposed to stay behind to oversee the mansion but there were changes. Why do you think I stayed longer today than usual?"
"Do you think they're going to come back fast?"
"I'm not sure," Varinia shrugged. "I reckon not, the humans are planning to attack each other and our leaders want to take advantage of that moment."
The village was in danger. The same image of houses being destroyed and people running for their lives flashed through her head. Maybe if she managed to escape she still had time to warn them, at least she could save her parents. Agatha got up from the bed and walked over to Varinia.
She took the demon by the shoulders before speaking. "This is my chance, you have to help me escape."
"Now? Without any plan? Do you have any idea how many demons are in the mansion?"
"I have more chances to escape now that the leaders are gone, plus if Zagar went after my friends it means they're going to come looking for me. Don't you want to leave this place too?"
"What about my brother?"
"He can come with us if he wants to. But we need to find the ancient light first."
Varinia grabbed Agatha's arms and pushed them off her shoulders. "You don't only want to run away but you also want to steal the most guarded relic in the mansion? Are you crazy?"
"Please. You said you wanted to do the right thing." Agatha put her shoes on and walked towards the door.
"Ugh, why am I so easy to convince? Alright, but you do as I say. At least my power is useful for this type of thing."
"What can you do?" Asked the young woman in a whisper as they crossed the threshold.
"You'll see it soon."
The halls of the mansion suddenly seemed much louder to Agatha despite wearing her earplugs. Every time she took a step she felt as if sound reverberated through the walls covered with paintings. And if it made her breathing quicken, then the shadows of the chandelier could cause her to go into cardiac arrest.
