Despite having completely different fields to study, Alhaitham and Amber always find a way to study together, or near each other. It was always at the same table in the same seats, though people didn't seem to think that they could ever possibly be friends- why would Alhaitham socialise with his complete opposite, unless necessary?
Over the years, it came naturally for the people of the Akademiya library to know Alhaitham preferred studying in silence, so to see him talking to the girl he shared a table with- was a shock for anyone near.
The scholars forgot their distinguished and all-knowing attitudes and murmured to one another all kinds of theories as to why he would engage with her, such as 'widening his view of the world' or something so simple as 'they are friends'- though that turned out to be the least popular conclusion amongst them.
Surely, he was just looking to see someone opposite him and move closer towards her to take a look at her book? Wait, what...? That doesn't sound like him at all! What kind of scholar appreciates the proximity of another human being? Alhaitham, of all people?
Either way, Kaveh watched this whole thing, as he tried to gather in his mind what was going on. Has Alhaitham beaten him in the romance department... 0-1? No, no, he could never! This girl must be his friend, as hard as it was to believe that he even had any to begin with.
He would have to ask him when he got home... though he knew it would linger in his mind for the rest of the day.

Kaveh ended up getting home later than expected, and found Alhaitham sitting at a table looking over some papers with an unfamiliar red charm at his side. "Close the door. You'll make it cold." Alhaitham said abruptly, turning to look at him.
"Well, I was about to! What do you take me for?" He closes the door quickly, puts away some belongings, and despite how much he would have liked to leave the room, he needed to ask about what happened earlier."...Was that girl your girlfriend?" Kaveh asks, crossing his arms. Alhaitham paused in his movements for a few seconds, turned and looked at Kaveh with a blank but critical stare. He seemed to be hiding some form of emotion subconsciously- "No? And what made you think that?"
Kaveh involuntarily looks away from Alhaitham, for the feeling of being interrogated was something he truly hated when it came to Alhaitham.Though, he noticed that Alhaitham seemed to know who he was talking about without a description- which either hinted towards a truth in his question, or that Alhaitham didn't know many girls that actually spoke to him, knowing he doesn't like social interaction anyway. However, he had a feeling that Alhaitham was a mix of both..? Ugh, and his thoughts are a jumble again. He tries to gather himself.
"You don't usually help other scholars with their studies. Surely that person must be special?" He felt strange, speaking this way. But it seemed to work, since his answer was simple and almost practised.
"We have been friends since childhood. If I had harboured such feelings for her, I might've acted on it already... or not. I'm getting back to work, don't disturb me." Alhaitham stared at Kaveh for a few seconds, thinking about whatever he was thinking about, before turning back to his work.God, he was being so weird. There must be something going on! Though, childhood friends? He knew that Alhaitham had friends, but it was still questionable with his personality. How does one stick around him for so long unless they truly, truly care about him? Alhaitham is tolerable when he feels comfortable, right? He's not even sure, but either way, if they've been friends for that long... if he's so comfortable around her- could it be possible they were more than friends? Would it be too typical to assume that?
Kaveh wasn't about to ask Alhaitham any more about it, because he would just poke an insult at him.Alhaitham most likely knows when something is to be acted upon, so he should probably leave it up to them...

He thinks. He thinks, and he thinks. He thinks about Amber. How does he feel about her? Well, she's his friend from childhood, of course, but how does she make him feel? She is, admittedly, one of the nicest and most accepting people he's ever met. But he's met plenty of nice and accepting people in his life... what makes her any different?
Well, Amber... Amber is the opposite of him. She is the opposite he needs. They are different in the way that nothing would stay the same without the other.
They are different in the way that he could never admit. He could never admit that he loved her.
