Chapter 19: Palpable Tension

"S-Sensei!" Happily shouted Sora as Mei was in disbelief seeing Raven of all people come in for the save.

"Y-You are!" She said as the merc would look back at the three before looking ahead at the dragon.

"Alex, Mei Raiden, go and take Sora somewhere safe. I'll handle this." She said.

Mei was unsure but both Alex and Sora nodded in agreement as Mei grabbed Sora's hand.

"Good luck Sensei. Come on you two lets go." Said Alex as he and the two girls started to run away while Raven began to duel with the dragon.

"I-I can't believe it. Sensei is finally back!" Happily said Sora.

"Your sensei is................t-that woman?" Asked Mei as Sora nodded.

"Yes. What's wrong? Hasn't Alex told you about her yet?" She asked.

Mei simply shot Alex a glare as the boy quickly looked back ahead to avoid any awkwardness.

They'd come across smaller batches of Honkai Beasts as Alex himself handle them since Mei was still feeling a little woozy from her prior headache.

Eventually, the three would successfully make it back to the Roost as they panted heavily.

"We should be safe here." Said Alex was Mei looked around and was a little confused.

"Dr. Tesla isn't here. I thought she was handling the defense. Where could she have gone?" Asked Mei.

Before the two could think, Raven's voice was suddenly heard.

"Finally you two get here. I've been waiting." She said.

Alex and Mei looked up to see Raven sitting on a roof of one of the shelters as she jumped off of it and landed onto the floor.

Sora immediately ran up to and hugged Raven.

"Thank god you're back Sensei! Did you beat the huge monster?" She asked.

Raven simply smiled and patted Sora's head as she shook her head no.

"Sorry but no, I didn't. Thankfully I was able to break one of its wings before it got away so it definitely won't be able to fly for a while." She said before standing up and facing the two.

"We'll talk about this later Sora. Get everyone inside and leave us be."

Sora was a little confused and looked at the two until Alex nodded.

"Listen to Sensei, Sora. We have some private things to talk about." He said.

Sora would nervously nod, obviously feeling the tension in the air as she walked away into one of the shelters.

"She must be lying. No way you're her Sensei." Said Mei as Raven sighed.

"I assure you she's not. I really am her caretaker. Ask Alex since I also raised him here for two years." She said.

Mei then looked at Alex expecting an answer.

"Alex. Is she, really yours, Sora's, and all these kids' Sensei?" She asked.

Alex kept quiet for a moment before finally answering as he nodded his head yes.

"Yeah, she is. Raven is my Sensei. She taught me everything I know." He said.

Mei simply looked on in shock as Raven tried to ease the situation.

"I know you must have many questions but first, I hope you can accept my gratitude. The children told me everything. You and Alex saved Sora and the Roost. If not for you two they could've.......................a-anyway, thank you." She said.
