A few days into the future.

Frank crossed their arms. "I wasn't expecting you, that's all."

Eddie glanced back at the record spinning on the player, low music coming from the speakers.

"You're a lovely singer, Frank. Why didn't you tell me?"

Frank huffed. "It wasn't something we talked about, was it? I'm not exactly the singing person. That's Sally. Julie, maybe."

Eddie slid down into the soft fabric of the couch, Frank in turn sitting next to him.

"You know, not everything is designated to one particular person in this neighborhood. I used to paint, but not well. Julie and Wally like to dance, I think just about everybody does. Some things like that are meant to be shared."

Eddie noticed Frank was looking down at their hands, tangling them up over and over again.

"Hey." Eddie laid his head onto their shoulder. They stiffened, but didn't shrug him off like he'd expected. "I liked your singing. I didn't have anything to deliver to Sally, I heard it from the road."

"You did? You came just for that?"

"You weren't home, I didn't have anything else to do for the day, and I thought I'd be at your place for the evening." He chuckled.

"Oh dear. I'd completely forgotten to tell you-" They sunk down into the couch, covering their face.

"It's alright! We're here now, aren't we? I'm not going anywhere."

Frank removes one hand from their face, the visible half of their mouth upturned in a smile.

"You happen to be my favourite neighbor. I can't ever get half of them to look in my direction. Do you ever look anywhere else?" They laugh again, and Eddie can't help but realize he wants to hear them laugh all the time.
