"Everett, hello?? Ev, we have to go to class! Everett? Are you in there?" I say stressing every syllable of his name and lightly hit his head. He can be so strange... I mean we were having a normal conversation and he literally just stopped walking. I look around and finally spot what he is obsessively staring at: A girl. He stopped to stare at a girl. Sometimes I really don't understand boys...
After a couple minutes of him drooling over her, I grab his hand and try dragging him towards the door, but he won't budge. "Come on Ev, there are plenty more pretty girls inside, let's go." I say as I take out my things for math class.
"Who is that girl and why have I not met her before?" He asks me, breaking out of his daze.
"That is a girl who you will have to look at later because the bell is going to ring in three minutes," I reply.
"B-but I wanna meet her! Do you know her? Becca, who is it? Tell me!!!" he yells, gripping onto my arm.
"Ow! Ev, If I knew her, I would tell you, but I don't. Now if I find out who the pretty girl is will you go to class?" I ask. He nods his head as I push him in the direction of his first period English class.
Finally, I am able to head to my first class: Analysis, which I am already dreading. As I am walking, I realize the hallways are almost empty.... Oh gosh... Class starts in one minute, I should run. I speed down the hall and around the corner, but then I run into a wall and fall on my butt. I silently thank God that the hallways are empty and no one saw me, or at least I thought so. I look up and realize that the wall that I ran into is a human being- an insanely attractive male human being who is now crouching to the floor to help me pick up my things. Oh gosh, why am I such a clutz? Okay, calm down Becca. He's just a boy. A very hot boy... No! Stop it! Oh gosh... He's talking, now would probably be a good time to listen.
"Are you okay?" Wow his eyes are beautiful. Oh no, I'm turning into Everett. I should respond... "Yeah, I am so so sorry! I should really pay more attention."
"No, no, it's fine, I just wanted to make sure you were alright," He says as he hands me my books, "I'm Brayden."
"I'm, Rebecca, nice to meet you," I shake his hand.
"You, too! So where are you headed?" he asks.
"Analysis," I answer, rolling my eyes.
"Not a fan of math? Well, now you'll have a friend in the class. I have that, too." He says. I smile in response and we start walking. Right as we get to the door, a girl's voice calls out, "Brayden, wait up!" We both turn and see Everett's mystery girl running up to us.
"Hey, Dev!" he exclaims, opening his arms to hug her, "I didn't see you all summer!"
"I know, I know," she replies, "I've just been so busy!"
"Excuse me," I say, "I'm sorry, I don't mean to interrupt, it's just that we are already late and it's the first day... Should we go in?"
"Yeah, sorry!" Brayden agrees as he opens the door for us. Such a gentleman!
We finally walk in and head to three open seats in the back. We must have gotten lucky, the teacher isn't here yet. This is my opportunity to find out who this girl is. "Hi," I say, reaching my hand out to her, "I'm Rebecca."
"Hi! I'm Devin and I love your skirt!"
"Thanks! You know, I got it on sale at that boutique downtown," I say.
"No way, I love that place!" She says, "Girly Pearls, right?"
"Yeah! You know we should--"
"Good morning class, My name is Ms. Stevens. I hope you have come with a pencil, a calculator, and your brains!" The teacher has arrived. She's young, but judging by her knee length pencil skirt and tight bun in her hair, she must be strict. I'm glad she didn't catch us coming in late...
I spend most of the class period in a daze. Math, though boring, has always come easy to me, so it's okay if I think about Brayden the entire time. Well him and Devin. Is it bad that I didn't want her to be nice? I was hoping that she would be some random acquaintance and they wouldn't even be friends. I guess I will just have to accept the fact that he has a girlfriend...
The bell rings and I begin to gather my things to leave, but Ms. Stevens calls me up. "Now, Ms. Phillips, is it?" I nod, "I hope you don't plan on making a habit of being late to my class."
"How did you--"
"I've been your age, I know how to tell when three of my students have been late." My eyes widen at her response, "Now, I'll let it go this time because I saw the way you were looking at him," she says.
"What are you--" I begin but she cuts me off again.
"I'm assuming you were talking to him before class, but just remember: promptness leads to perfection. I expect you to be on time from now on."
"Yes, Ms. Stevens, I am so sorry. It won't happen again."
"Glad to hear it, now go on to your next class, You don't want to be late twice in a row," she warns me as I walk towards the door.
"Goodbye Ms. Stevens, see you tomorrow," I reply. Wow. She is good... How does she do that? I think as I head to my locker, where Everett is waiting. "Hey Bec, how was math?" he asks.
"Boring, but your girl was in my class," I say.
"She is? What did she say? What did you say? What's her name? Did you talk to her?" he proceeds to ask me a million questions.
"Yeah, I--" Oh wait. If Devin is Brayden's girlfriend, than Brayden is Devin's boyfriend... And I have to be the one to break it to my brother.
