Driana struggled against Victoria's grasp, who wedged the girl in a tight space. The pack members were somewhere due to Victoria's scheme that involved separating them. Succeeding, she managed to get Driana alone. With no wolf in sight, they've been fighting since then.

"Because of that family, mine was taken from me!" Victoria growled. "James and I were the perfect pair!"

Driana held onto Victoria's arm that pinned her between the rocks. "And if you managed to kill me, who's to say you won't be next? The wolves and the Cullens would gladly hunt you down."

Victoria roared, digging her nails at the girl's mandible, and tried to rip her head off. Driana's hands shot out, gripping Victoria's jaw and hair. Both struggled to kill one another while surviving the other's strength. Suddenly, Victoria's dark eyes became toned down. A human was nearby. Victoria rushed to the scent, being chased by Driana, who freed herself by punching a way out of the rocks.

"No!" Driana shouted at a great distance. She could see through Victoria's eyes that she had captured a human male yards away from the road. The vampire sank her teeth into his neck, drying him out. Focusing on the wolf pack, Driana could see Paul was the closest. "Paul! She's on your right!" Paul had knocked the vampire and victim further back into the woods. However, Driana saw the human male glimpsing at a woman before blacking out. She gasped. "Paul, run! There's a witness!" Paul left the scene, and she heard the tone of his howl that told her to meet at Billy Black's place.

"Are you alright?" Sam asked, holding the girl by her shoulders. He frowned. "Your neck."

"It's like cracks running through glass," Embry pointed out.

Driana shielded her skin. "I got into a scuffle with Victoria, that's all. It'll heal."

Paul gently touched her face, then narrowed his eyes. "That vampire bitch!"

"Paul!" Driana and Sam scolded.

Paul shook his head, furrowing his brows as he controlled his anger. "Sorry," He mumbled. "Sam, imagine what that vampire chick can do to the towns. There's how many of us, yet one vampire slips past us so easily."

"We could've been a lot if we were complete," Jared said, annoyed.

Rustling came from the trees, and they stared into the darkness. Jacob emerged from the woods, hurrying to where the pack and Driana waited in his yard. Greeted with crossed arms, Jacob slowed and halted, looking clueless.

"Where were you?" Sam inquired.

"That vampire ran me off course," Jacob nonchalantly said.

"And then?" Jared pushed.

"Ended up in Jefferson County," Jacob told him, staring at everyone.

Paul rolled his eyes, unfolding his arms and pointing at Jacob. "What a load of bull! It didn't take all of us a long time to get back. And you live here!"

Jacob glared at Paul, stepping into his space. "Go and assume I'm lying, Paul."

Driana clenched her jaw and yanked Jacob back. "Enough! Fight amongst yourselves after we capture the vampire."

Sam eased the tension and reminded them to avoid being seen by humans. He encouraged them they'd do better, then called it a night. Paul dropped Driana home, apologizing for his anger and kissing her nose before leaving. Driana sighed, closing the door behind her. She stared into the mirror, touching her neck. It did heal, but the thought of the cracks on her skin made her shiver. Perhaps having company was better.

Securing her home, Driana fed for hours until her stomach could handle no more. She was positive her eyes were the lightest shade they've ever been. The sky began to change color, signaling the time of dawn. Using her speed, she was a blur through the dense forest. She stopped at the border of the territory, waiting. Thumping and pants drew closer to the invisible line.

"Sam," Driana greeted the black wolf. "I realized how close the vampire's getting to the towns. Considering I'm the nearest to the humans and farther from Quileute, she could attack me, and you guys won't be there in time. For today, I was hoping I could stay around." She gestured toward the direction of Neah Bay.

Sam thought for a moment, staring into her eyes. Driana patted her stomach in confirmation. The wolf gruffed, gesturing for her to come along. Sam trudged at a pace while Driana briskly followed. A small, faded gray house appeared, and the discolored blue door swung open.

"Driana!" Emily Young cheered in surprise.

Sam nodded at his imprintee, brushing against her. Emily smiled, softly running her hand through Sam's fur before he went around the house to continue patrolling. Emily led the way inside her home. Driana kept a distance from Emily, not wanting to worry Sam. However, Emily shook her head, grabbing her hand and forcing her to stay at the kitchen counter.

"Bet those boys would come back hungry as usual," Emily muttered, looking through her cabinets. "You can help me cook. Unless you lost your sense of skills since you're a vampire now."

Driana scoffed before smiling. "Okay, Mrs. Future Uley."

Emily brought out a bowl and a whisk. Driana stirred while Emily poured the ingredients. They were making plain muffins. Driana poured them into a tray, handing them to Emily, who slid them into the oven. The pair worked on the second batch of muffins, adding strawberries and blueberries. They talked about how Sam proposed to Emily, the threat of the vampire, and the ongoing attacks.

"I feel sad," Driana suddenly said.

Emily paused what she was doing. "Muffins make you sad?"

Driana sighed, whisking slowly. "Actually, bittersweet. Because of what I am, this brings back memories of how I'd eat as much human food as I want."

"Oh," Emily frowned, wiping her hands on a rag. "At least with me, you experience creating them again." Excited, she grabbed the fresh out of the oven muffin tray, letting it go. "Ow!"

"I got it!" Driana assured, catching the tray. She popped them onto a paper plate. "Em, you okay?"

Emily nodded with a smirk, running her hand under cold water. "See? Being a supernatural with those fast reflexes isn't so bad."

Driana's eyes widened, realizing what she had done. "Emily, you-" She paused, raising a hand at Emily to keep still. The familiar sound of a vehicle made her beeline up the stairs.
