It was surreal how quickly three months had gone by. One second, Donghyuck and Jiseol were fighting over the bathroom on their first day as roommates and spent the whole night wondering how the hell they were going to survive living with each other.
Next thing they knew was that three months passed by and now they were fighting over an episode of Barbie Life in the Dreamhouse, except this time they were fighting whilst still cuddling on the couch. It was officially Jiseol's last night in the apartment before moving to her new place with Jisung which would be the siblings' own apartment; after having to come clean about her housing situation when they overheard Donghyuck's voice during a late night phone call, her parents bought a three-bedroom condo near their university campus so that the siblings wouldn't have to rent ("Especially with idiots like Jiseol's ex-housemates," their mother said). She was initially worried about their finances since they weren't rich enough to be buying houses off the bat but it turned out that her parents were better with their savings than she expected, which also raised the question as to where Jisung's poor money handling came from.
"I really can't comprehend how you don't think that Raquelle is a great character. She's mean sometimes but she eventually has good intentions," Donghyuck gestured at the TV.
"She's just mean and jealous. She has no reason to treat Barbie like that," Jiseol argued. Once Donghyuck put his hands up in defeat, the blanket covering them both slightly shifting, she opted to switch the conversation.
"Have you found a new roommate yet?"
"Actually, yeah. It's my dad. I'm moving back in with him," Donghyuck smiled. "It'll be easier for me to take him to his physio sessions when my mom can't and most importantly, I won't have rent to pay."
"You're going to be okay?" Jiseol asked, placing her hand on his chest.
"I will be. Just need to get used to seeing my parents under the same roof again but on the bright side, once I move back in, we'll start family therapy."
Jiseol returned his smile. "I'm glad."
"So. Are you going to help me move?"
"Nope."
"But I'm helping you move," Donghyuck scowled, though Jiseol's cheeky grin affirmed that she knew it was lighthearted. She knew there was no way Donghyuck would let her do manual labor even if she wanted to—in fact, she was concerned he wouldn't let her carry her own handbag when they went out.
"You want me to lift heavy boxes? What, you don't love me anymore?"
At the drop of the L word however, the atmosphere changed. As Donghyuck stared at her in dumbfounded shock, Jiseol froze up, cursing herself and thinking "See, this is why I don't make jokes". She winced, avoiding Donghyuck's eyes, his lips moving hesitantly like he wanted to say something but couldn't. She felt excruciatingly so much worse when she could feel how tense his body had become. Oh God, she ruined it.
