Sighing deeply, Harper grabbed a towel, running it across her forehead as she high fived Amira, grinning at her as they made their way into the changing rooms to clean up after winning their game.
Several more high fives came her way as she walked past her teammates, as well as several whispers and giggles. She eyed her friends suspiciously as they changed and sprayed themselves with various deodorants and perfumes.
Realistically, they'd all love to have a shower but the cleanliness of their changing room showers was very hit and miss so they mostly just waited until they got home to wash off all the mud and sweat.
"Is there something funny, you guys?" She asked suddenly, giving up on getting changed as a loud burst of giggles filled the changing room. Amira and Charlotte both turned around with slightly guilty expressions, the rest of the girls trying to contain their giggles.
Charlotte shrugged, stuffing her uniform into her bag as she obviously held back laughter, "Oh, its nothing really. Amira and I were just telling the rest of the girls about the verbal beat down Fliss treated you to the other day," She answered, zipping her bag closed before dumping it on the floor and taking a seat.
Feeling heat pooling in her cheeks as she turned back to her set of clean clothes she shook her head, "Eavesdropping is considered rude, you know?" She said, a mixture of annoyance and amusement obvious in her quiet voice as she recalled how she had almost got to kiss Fliss before she got shouted at.
Her blush spread to her neck at the memory, immediately turning away from the girls as she pulled on her shirt. They didn't need anything more to tease her about
None of the other girls got to answer her question, a knock on the changing room door ending the conversation as they all turned to see the captain of the team they had just played stepping through the now open door.
No one said anything, unsure of what to do. Both teams had already shook hands on the pitch before moving to their respective changing rooms.
"Oh, uh, sorry. I didn't realise everyone was in here," She said, two red spots appearing on her cheeks as she rubbed at her neck awkwardly, "I was just looking for number 3," Her eyes landed on Harper as she spoke, her whole face lighting up, "Can we talk - out here, preferably,"
The rest of the team made teasing noises, 'oooo'ing as they realised what the girl was going to say. Harper glared at them, snatching her water bottle as she nodded, walking towards the girl.
Both of them walked out of the room, now back on the pitch. The only other people still there were their coach, Kaia and Freya, all of them huddled by the stands, looking over a sheet of paper. Harper chuckled at the sight of them, knowing they were already going over the game and how they could improve.
Crazy women.
Turning her vision away from her friends, she looked at the girl who had asked to talk to her instead, "You wanted to talk?"
Cheeks turning red yet again, the girl nodded, "Yeah! My names Riley and uh..well, I couldn't help but notice you during the game today," A nervous chuckle escaped her lips as she looked up from the ground.
Harper didn't even smile, her eyes no longer even focused on the girl. Instead they were watching a very familiar figure walk across the pitch towards Kaia and Freya.
Felicity.
Seeing that she had lost Harpers attention, Riley scrambled to continue what she was saying, "And you looked beautiful, despite being covered in mud - not that a girl can't look beautiful covered in mud," She stuttered, swearing under her breath as she continued to screw up what she was trying to say.
