"I'm going on break, Richard!" Felicity shouted to her boss as she untied her apron, chucking it to the side as she made her way to the staff door that led outside, tapping her back pocket to double-check that her phone was still there and not by the coffee machine where she usually left it.
"Alright, Fliss! Have an hour today, you've been working your butt off the past few hours!" He shouted back, grabbing his own apron as he took her place behind the counter, greeting a customer with his usual wide smile.
She scoffed, pushing open the door and walking outside, muttering under her breath as the cool November air washed over her. It was quickly followed by the smell of the overflowing bins that now surrounded her, making her nose wrinkle in disgust.
The bin men had forgotten to come this morning. Again.
Shaking her head, she took out her phone, leaning against the wall as she texted Freya to let her know she was on an hour's break. Her sister always visited her at the Cafe on Thursday so she always asked to know when she went on break so she didn't miss her.
It would be nice to actually go out and walk around town with her sister while on her break but staff members weren't allowed to leave the premises until their shift finished - too many cases of people not returning after their break had finished, apparently.
The staff canteen was the only place to go during breaks and if you wanted to go outside, the only option was where the bins lived. It stunk and there was no opening or gate, just four disgustingly dirty walls.
She sighed, wiping some crust from her eyes. An hour break was great and all but it went by so slowly, whereas several 15-minute or half-hour breaks spread over her whole shift were perfect. She got a break from customers for a while but was back before she knew it, the rest of her shift speeding by like it was nothing.
Looking at the time, she groaned loudly at seeing that only a few minutes had gone by, her body slumping against the wall.
"Damn, someone's not happy, eh girls?" A voice suddenly spoke, making Felicity jump, her phone slipping from her hands and hitting the floor, an audible crack being heard. Gasping, she immediatley reached down to grab it, looking in horror at her desecrated screen before looking up, eyes widening at the sight of Kenzie, Harper and Ari sitting on the wall opposite her.
"What the hell guys!" She shouted, looking back at her phone as she desperately tried to turn it on. "No, no, no! Please turn on!" She cried before throwing it back to the ground when she realised it wasn't going to turn on again.
The girls jumped from the wall, landing perfectly on the ground. "Hey, don't panic, Princess," Ari spoke, a sly smile growing on her face. "Harper will buy you a new one, right Harp?"
Harper grinned, grabbing the broken phone and sliding it into her pocket, ignoring Felicity's protests. "Yeah. Don't worry, Fliss, I'll transfer everything over. Did you want the same phone or a newer version?" She asked, looking amused at the younger girl's confused face.
"Just get her a newer version, Harp." Kenzie chimed in. "You are the reason she dropped it after all."
"No! I can just ask my parents for a new one." Felicity desperately said, holding her hand out for her phone and receiving a high five instead. She stared at her hand in shock for a few seconds before looking up at Harper with a furious glare.
"Honestly, don't worry about it, Princess." Ari spoke again, "Harper is richer than all of us combined. She could buy you 100 phones and not even make a dent in her riches. Not to mention she's a whizz with technology so she could probably just fix it up for you if you really wanted her to," She explained, picking at her nails as if explaining this bored her out of her mind.
