Ice Cream

Your sweet Felix...you rehearsed what to say in your head a million times over as you walked to Dangdo's.
The ice cream parlor was midway between your houses so thankfully there was no need to take the metro. Plus walks always calmed your anxiety.

You loved living in this city...The nights were starting to warm with spring finally in full swing and cherry blossoms were blooming around every corner.
And then there was Hyunjin...and the way he looked at you..like you were the only person in the world.

But where was he tonight?...you didn't want to pry and ask what it was he "needed to take care of" but you had hoped he would tell you on his own.
After he had left you earlier this afternoon he did text you like he said he would...simply to check in, tell you he missed you or send a picture of something that reminded him of you.

You thought it would be best to let him know you were meeting Felix tonight to clear the air and Hyunjin agreed it was a good idea.

~"I think he did to..that's why I want to explain things to him. He was the first person who was kind to me when I moved here, I really want to keep him as a friend."~

~"He's a good guy, I may not know him well, but Lee Know and him have been friends since they were kids and that says a lot because Minho doesn't like anyone lol"~

You were thankful Hyunjin was understanding of the situation...your ex wouldn't have dared let you have a friend of the opposite sex but of course he was allowed to have more than you could count and would never disclose him seeing them. Fuck him, you thought.

As you approached your destination, you spotted Felix. He was sitting on a bench elbows resting on his knees staring off into nothingness...he looked so angelic in the streetlights and neon signs.

"Hey" you said happily sitting down next to him.

"Hey!" his smile was back, lighting up the second he saw you.

"Wanna get our ice cream then come back and sit out here? It's too nice of a night to sit inside." You asked.

"Sure, I'm buying though. No objections allowed." He said standing holding his hand out to help you up.

"But Felix" you begged.

"Nope, it's the least I can do after being a terrible party host the other night. I really am sorry, I didn't mean to leave you stranded like that...I wanted to spend time with you."

"Fine" you huffed rolling your eyes. "But I already told you it was okay..."

He held the door open for you like such a gentleman...the smells of fresh baked waffle cones and warm vanilla flooding your senses.

"Oh my God, there's so many choices!" You looked through them in awe.

"Mine favorite is the cookie dough." He said winking at you.

"You would be the type to like cookie dough" you laughed poking him in the side.

"What's that supposed to mean?" He asked covering his mouth acting offended.

"Mmm..I think I'll get the coffee flavored"

"And you would be the type to get coffee flavored ice cream" he said teasing you back.

"Hey, I like my coffee, you should know this by now"

After getting your double scooped waffle cones you two walked back to the bench outside. Felix watched you from his peripheral vision as you licked your ice cream slowly...he liked you, a lot..and now he couldn't exactly admit it. He had planned on asking you out on a proper date after the party but...his thoughts trailed off when you spoke...

"So your roommates seemed nice.." you were searching for a way to ease into the topic of Hyunjin.

"Yeah they're pretty cool. They can be a handful to live with though." He said taking a lick of his ice cream.

"I liked them...it was a fun night"

"Mmm...I heard it was quite entertaining...Lee Know at least was entertained" he laughed.

"Oh?" You didn't know what he meant by that.

"Chan was apparently extremely pissed...after" he paused "after Hyunjin cut in" he paused again before asking the inevitable. "Are you two dating?"

You looked down at your ice cream. "Yeah...I'm sorry Felix..I..."

He cut you off, "There's no need to be sorry...he's a lucky guy...and a friend.."

"I just don't want anything to change between us Felix...I don't want me dating Hyunjin to come between us." You pleaded searching his face.

"It wont...I promise..I may be a little jealous to be perfectly honest" he confessed looking down at his ice cream blushing "but I care about you and I want you to be happy."

You couldn't help but wrap your arms around him and hug him tightly. He truly was the best.

"Just know...if he ever does anything to hurt you...I'll...I'll spit in his coffee" he said with a laugh.

"Oh my God, that's disgusting" you laughed out loud.

"But really" he said more serious, "I just want to see you happy and I'll always be here, in whatever way you'll let me.." he looked deep into your eyes...you could feel the intensity behind them and you understood what he meant.

"Thank you, Felix..I really do mean it...I don't have many in my life anymore who care as much about me as you do."

He smiled lovingly at you... "wanna try my cookie dough? It's really fucking good" he said with a big lick trying to lighten the heavy mood.

"Only if you try my coffee flavored" you said holding yours out and swapping with Felix.

"Oh—wow" you both said in unison which made you both laugh uncontrollably.

"I hope Hyunjin isn't mad we practically swapped spit tonight.." he said grinning..

All you could do was blush. This boy. He will be the death of me you thought to yourself. You hoped he could keep it together just being friends...
