You know that myth that high school girls use weird nicknames instead of actual names to talk about people in their back ? That was far from a myth to Eden.
"Pikachu ? Who's that one again ?" she asked her friend, visibly confused.
"It's the new guy, Harry, remember ? You know, Harry to Harry Potter to thunderbolt to Pikachu." Yuri tried to explain without getting to annoyed. The nicknames weren't always the best idea when one of the two friends had really short term memory.
"Oh, right, right..."
The two had a nickname for almost every person in the class. They had to, they loved to gossip, and they had beef with a lot of people. And Yuri, being as committed as she was, had a new crush every week, which required a nickname of his own.
"But wait- Didn't you talk to me about spider just a few days ago ?" Eden asked, furrowing her eyebrows.
"Nah girl, spider is so last week... Plus, I saw his arms were as thick as twigs, under his hoodie, that's a no no for me babe." She flicked her hair behind her shoulder sassily.
"Amen sister." the other added, initiating their iconic 'legally blondes' handshake.
"Anyways, I have chemistry right now, see you later ~"
"You'll tell me everything about lab coat right ?" Eden yelled as she left in the other direction.
"And you about hedgehog !" She answered, turning around the corner.
Eden chuckled to herself, putting her earphones back on, laughing at the mere thought of having something to say : to have something to tell, she'd need to have any sort of interaction first...
Hedgehog was the nickname for her own little crush, Jamie. Well, little.... She had been pretty much head over heels for him for months now. But, in her opinion, he was just the whole package : mesmerizing blue eyes she wanted to drown into, hypnotic British accent that made her knees buckle each time he talked in class, arms far from twigs and a smile that could melt the coldest hearts.
He was in most of her classes, including maths, where she was headed to at the moment. He was sat in front of her, and some days she had to put in extra effort to not get distracted by his overpowering aura.
And apparently, today was one of those days, as she heard his laughter resonate through her ears as soon as she sat on her chair, one she could hear even over her music. She tried to ignore the soothing sound and unpack her stuff, organizing her desk for the hour to come. But she didn't expect a discreet knock on her table, startled by the movement, and she didn't expect to see Jamie looking back at her when she looked up.
"Ca...row y....n ?"
For a second she just looked into his eyes, diving into the blue she worshiped so much, before he tilted his head to the side questioningly. She instantly took her earphones out of her ears, her music still blasting.
"Sorry, couldn't hear you. You said ?" she said quickly, clearly nervous despite her best efforts to hide it.
He chuckled. "Yeah, that's pretty loud..." He motioned to her earphones. "Is that really Ayesha you're listening to ?" he said with a little laugh.
Eden couldn't stop the light blush dusting her cheeks. "And unironically."
"Not bad. Anyway, I was asking if I could borrow a pen ? I forgot half my stuff this morning." Jamie explained, like trying to justify himself.
"Oh yeah sure, let me just-" she immediately delved into her case, trying to find something other than pink inked pens. Finally, she handed him one. "That should do it. Sorry it's pink, it's the only one I have I think... but it's supposed to write in black, don't worry."
