"and even now i lie awake, knowing history has its eyes on me"

i always looked up to the general. now that i'm his right hand man, he tells me his stories. he tells me how to live up to my full potential.

"i was younger than you are now, when i was given my first command."

he tells me how much shame he had in his head knowing that people thought badly of him. his name was dragged through the mud after he made one mistake. he tells me to remember that history has its eyes on me too. he tells me i'm a vital part of the revolution now.

i now know that getting involved with any duels is immature. i wanted a legacy, i wanted people to remember me as a warrior, a martyr perhaps, but with washington's words, i don't know if i feel that way anymore. eliza says that she doesn't mind what i do as long as i'm safe and come back home at the end of the day. she says she loves every part of me, even the parts of my own regret. she says it's a learning point, and you know what, maybe i agree. maybe i need to learn that i can be important and still have a side to me that cares, right?
