"A cemetery..?"

"An abandoned one," He shrugged, "No one ever comes around here anymore. It's pretty sad, but it's a pretty peaceful place to read."

"Who knows, maybe the spirits enjoy your company."

"Maybe they'll enjoy yours, too?" He tilted his head to meet his eye level before pulling him farther into the grave site, more headstones coming into view along with eroded stone statues of angels. He peeked over the edge of the cliff mostly barricaded by trees and bushes. It was a short fall, barely 6 feet off the ground.

Evan broke away from Donnie, sitting on the base of a statue of a cherub, whose face had flatteringly broken off. Donnie followed, sitting next to him.

"I like it here." Evan drummed his fingers against the dusty stone. "Think the spirits would mind if i sparked up right now?"

"Spark up... as in... pot?" A mischievous grin tugged at the corners of his lips and his eyebrows raised in wonder.

"Duh, what else would I be smoking?" He reached into his pocket and pulled out a metal tin shaped similarly to a carton of cigs. Popping the top open, a potent smell filled his nose. Inside were a few pre-rolled marijuana cigarettes.

"So... the new girl, Gretchen," Donnie started as Evan patted himself down, searching for a lighter. He bit his lip nervously, he didn't know if bringing Gretchen up to Evan was the best decision as his feelings towards him were currently a jumble in his brain, but he usually talked about girls with his other friends.

"Mhm," He hummed, holding out a hand which Donnie quickly dropped a small lighter into.

"Think she's cute?" He smirked.

"Uhhh..." His mouth fell open, baffled by the question, "I-I guess she's pretty." He shrugged.

He snickered. "You guess? That girl is smokin', Evan!"

Evan's face turned red at the comment, a pang of rejection tugging at his heartstrings. "Oh. Well clearly, she thinks the same about you."

"So you think I have a chance with her?" His voice was quieter now. He was completely unsure of the question. She was new, and pretty, and everyone fawned over her, yet she picked Donnie to sit next to out of everyone. He thought, if he had the chance, he should take it, instead of dwelling on a boycrush that would probably pass with time.

"Sure, you like her, she likes you, what could go wrong?" The laughter that followed sounded faker than Gretchen's hair looked.

Donnie shifted, leaning down to Evan's eye level. He knew something was off, but he couldn't pinpoint what was wrong.

"...Unless... you would rather go on a date with her? I could set something up." He nudged him with his elbow, a taunting smirk playing on his lips.

Evan's face completely scrunched up and he laughed, for real this time. "Man, what?"

"You seemed quiet. There's something you're not telling me. You must like her, hm?" He shoved a finger into Evan's side, causing him to jump. His playfulness was an attempt to lighten the mood, the gentle smile never left his face.

"I don't even know her- and neither do you?" He rolled his eyes, placing a joint between his lips, ready to end the conversation and smoke the tough feelings away.

"Someone's jealous," Donnie taunted in a sing-song voice.

He huffed, crossing his arms over his chest. "I promise you, I'm not." Not jealous of Donnie at least.

"Uh-huhhh. It's okay, Evan, I'll let you have the girl just this once." He continued teasing.

"Seriously, stoppp!" He whined, taking the joint out of his mouth and lodging it between his fingers. "You can have her, I don't want her."

He rolled his eyes, hoping to get the last word in. "If it makes you happy, I won't mess around with her, so maybe you'd have a chance." He winked.

Evan simply shot him a bewildered look, staring at him like he was crazy. "Can't you get it through your thick ass skull?" His tone wasn't angry or upset, only playful. He rose his fist to gently "knock" on Donnie's forehead. "She's not my type! Who says I like girls anyways?" He muttered the last part nearly under his breath, immediately regretting saying it at all. His heart sank in his chest, bracing himself for Donnie's reaction.

"Hm. That explains why you seemed so disinterested in her." He didn't seem to care, but inside, his heart was doing jumping jacks. That was all he needed to hear to scrap the idea of Gretchen in full, he *actually* might've had a chance with Evan.

"Seemed?!" He pushed Donnie lightly, earning a laugh from him. "Just shut up and hit this shit." He finally lit the end of the joint and took a puff before handing it over to Donnie.
