I was perched on the edge of a rooftop in the heart of New York City, my short blonde hair moved with the cold wind of the night as I tried to be careful so he wouldn't see me. The view was breathetaking, but I had to focus if I didn't want things to end bad, so I stopped looking at the lights of the city and I looked at my target.

"Go on, do something I am not supposed to see," I whispered to myself, but of course he didn't do anything, the Prowler was too careful, Miles Morales was always too careful. Well, at least the Miles of Earth 42.

Since when all this Spider-Woman thing started it was like I attracted chaos like a magnet, but this... this was different, tracking Prowler wasn't being easy, but tonight was much worse and the reason was simple: I was too close to him.

I watched Miles, the Prowler move, his black and purple outfit matched him perfectly, his braids moved with the wind as much as my hair did. My spider-sense had tingled earlier, warning me that something big was about to go down. But as I crouched in the shadows, I couldn't help but feel my chest go cold in the presence of my enemy.

He moved like a cat, silent and deadly, and I couldn't help but admire his agility. Of course, I admired it from a safe distance, behind a large air conditioning unit, where I was hidden from view. My heart was beating so fast that I had the feeling that he was going to hear it. Too close, I was too close. With that, I moved away as the Prowler was busy cleaning something that looked like a weapon, he probably made it himself, and that wasn't good news at all.

I managed to move away to the safety of a wall on the top of the building, there were many electric cables attached to the wall that looked way too old to be considered safe, but if I didn't touch anything I would be fine.

Suddenly, I felt a strange sensation at the back of my neck, my spider-sense made my body feel a soft, but long vibration. No, it couldn't be. I looked at the spot where Miles Morales was before, but he wasn't there anymore (big surprise). No, no no. Shit!

I tried to breath slowly and calm down, attributing my anxiety to my overactive imagination.

Alright, I just lost him, that was fine, I could find him again and...

But then I heard a low chuckle behind me. My heart skipped a beat. Two.

I slowly turned around, my eyes widening in surprise. There he was, the Prowler, standing just a few feet away, a wicked grin on his face. "Are you going to keep watching me from far away like a stalker or talk to me like a normal person?" he purred, his voice dripping with amusement and poison. He was trying to make me mad, and spoiler warning: it was working.

I mustered up all the bravado I could manage and replied, "Oh, I am just a friendly neighborhood stalker trying to discover what kind of chaos you are planning to create in this city. No big deal," I answered his poison with some more poison.

The Prowler chuckled again, his dark yellow eyes never leaving mine, and for some reason, that made my entire body stop moving, he was so much taller than me that I had to keep looking up to challenge him, I wouldn't be the first to break eye contact, hell no.

"You have a sharp tongue, my nemesis," he whispered and moved closer. Normally, I would never walk back, but something about the Prowler made my brain stop working well, so as he took steps towards me, I took steps back.

One step back.

Two.

Three...

Until the cold wall touched my back and I couldn't move more, but he could, so he took one more step toward me, of course he did, and he killed the space between us, his body leaned against mine, his arm over my shoulder, almost touching my ear, as he supported his body with his hand against the wall.
